LSU Football Self-Imposes Penalties

And my favorite thing is “you can’t punish current players. They weren’t here then.” You’re not punishing the players. Youre punishing the institution. If you feel for the players, let them transfer without sitting

There are Some Miscreant Universities in our own conference that have been known to do the same thing.

We all “did”. We recruited with the best of them.

Two weights, two measures.
One leads to the cfp the other leads to a g5.

Yes, in the good old SWC days.

How many college football and basketball programs
are profitable ? I seem to recall reading that only a
small handful show a profit annually.

More than a few are profitable.

That football list, with a couple of exceptions are SEC and Big10 rosters.

While FB and BB programs might be profitable at some schools, especially those with big TV contracts, there are many fewer athletic departments that are profitable. FB and BB help offset the losses, but there are losses in more than not.

Thank you Ron for that excellent data. The top
24-29 do look like profitable money machines from that data. Do you think the “profit” picture is as rosy for the bottom half of the P5 and essentially all the G5 ?

Here is the answer:

  • In total, only 25 athletics departments’ generated revenues exceeded their expenses in 2018-19 — all were in autonomy five conferences — and the median surplus at those schools was $7.9 million. While 29 athletics departments reported positive generated net revenue in fiscal year 2018, the median number of schools to do so in a given fiscal year from 2005 to 2019 is 24.
