“As this process was completed, it was clearly evident the only individual to offer our position to was Major Applewhite and he was indeed the right man to lead our program.”
I don’t think Yurachek is the sharpest tool in the shed. Why would he alienate Todd Orlando with those remarks? Doesn’t he want to try to hold onto him as DC?
I think hes talking about his ties to local recruiting which he mentions in the same quote. That’s something that everyone agreed about CMA on this board.
I think he could have framed it better. Something to the effect that it was a very difficult decision but he is confident that MA will lead the program to new heights.
Pretty sure Orlando has already started his housing search in Austin. He was never going to stay if he didn’t get the HC gig. Good on him for staying through the bowl after his comments about finishing the commitments made to the student athletes

I cant be alone in thinking w/out Ward doing his thing, I didnt like Applewhites offense.
Go back and watch what Applewhite did with Rice’s offense when he was OC there. It becomes readily apparent that the offense he was running the past 2 years here was Herman’s offense, not his. I think we’ll see something more similar to the Sumlin/Keenum offense than what we saw the last 2 years.
So my Longhorn friend says that Major was never really fired anywhere. He left Saban after a year when Mack called. He was then laid off, like Gilbert this year, when Mack was let go.
Yes, and CTH is the one that likes to run QBs up the middle. It worked a lot but not so much this year. Assistants are key.
Congrats Coogs. He’s going to be great and might just be the one to stick around a long long time. After years of having the P5 Texas schools steal Coog coaches, put your anti-whorn bias aside and embrace taking one from them for a change. Who better to walk into a living room and sell UH to a multi-Texas offered recruit, than a former whorn star QB? “Well son, let me tell you about how things really go down at UT…”
I have had conversations over the last two years with by UT Co-worker about Major, CTH, and their ties to Greg Davis. CTH always said that Greg Davis is the coach who taught him the most about offensive football. I observed that when Greg Davis had Vince Young or Colt McCoy, he looked pretty smart. Other times not so much. My co-worker said maybe CTH and Major learned that you better have a really good QB and that is why CTH took the UH job because he knew he had GWJr. If you look at the QB position at UH next year, you feel good about the offense. Hiring a DC is what Major has to nail. I fully expect Orlando to be in Austin next year.
