The Penders’ team lead by O, Latham and Thorpe could play some tremendous trapping defenses. The problem moving forward is we were a one-trick pony on defense and offensively just didn’t run many sets to create consistency. We relied on one1-2 guy getting hot and riding their shoulders.
All those that supported the programs during the years especially (2000 - 2010) when it was tough to remain competitive, coaches consistently getting poached, 100 people in the stands should have their names on a plague in the new facilities! …
I’ll take CKS all day over CTP. Having said that - CTP did great with the LOW level of support he had then. Hofeinz had become a dump. CKS came on board with a new ground swell of support that has made a huge difference. Not sure CKS succeeds with the the facilities CTP had.
I feel like I was paid in shirts thrown when UH made a 3 pt shot. These days you don’t get a shirt thrown your direction unless you are in the high rent district or student section.
Penders is a Coog legend to me. Got us back in the tourney and got a technical while having heart arrhythmia, lying on his back, looking up in the lights.
He was s different kind of coach but will always be appreciated.
And he’s been a gracious supporter of the school ever since. Will never say a bad word about him.
