Miami?
What do people want? If no one shows up it’s embarrassing and people come on here and complain that no one markets the games or promotes the team. Then the University and public figures in the city promote the game and people complain and say it’s embarrassing. Like what do you want to happen?
Some people are NEVER happy.
You’ll find most of them in the game day threads.
I don’t see this as something embarrassing at all, plus most schools do something like this with local businesses. It’s actually cool to have local businesses involved with our school to this degree. Plus, Mattress Mack wouldn’t do it if he didn’t see some kind of benefit.
Do yall not remember Ashley Furniture giving away tickets to the Texas Bowl if you scanned a QR code, Mac is just taking back what is his. Our in stadium attendance may be sluggish but our favorablity in Houston is high. Have yall seen the Raisin Canes, Group One, and Hoop Tea, co-branded with UH billboards around town because I have. We may not fill our stadiums but plenty of businesses want to be affiliated with us.
We should never just give tickets away, if sponsors want to do it or we want to give them to select groups that is fine but think about it imagine we had the policy that all tickets would be given away if they are not sold before game day, we would not sell another ticket.
So, let me get this straight…
Giving away free tickets in the nosebleeds is gonna cause all season ticket holders to give up their preferred seating?
Not buying it, for a second.
There really aren’t “nosebleeds” on our stadium.
And giving away tickets just means they can’t be sold and will likely be empty. It’s counterproductive.
Moving past the typical negativity from some, has anyone been out there to see if they’re being grabbed.
Yes happens in collie station and my grandkids get the benefit because they live there
Someone went earlier this morning and said there wasn’t a line for them and plenty of tickets were still available. I’m going to get there in a hour to see if I can get some myself.
Mattress Mack is a friend to UH. Any criticism is not warranted.
Super cool
I just called (1:20 PM) and there are still tickets to be had at his store. First come first served.
Just picked up 4 about a half hour ago. Drive from Sugarland only 40 minutes and the man in charge said he’s got plenty left.
Side note he’s a Coog fan as we talked for a couple minutes and he was excited for the game and know a lot of our players. Not sure on his name but think it was Joe. Just walk inside and tell them you’re there for the UH tix and they will get you to him.
I believe I heard that MM purchased the tickets so that the game would be broadcast LOCALLY. Maybe it was going to be a blackout here if it was not a sellout. Believe I heard this on M. Berry’s show this AM.
I don’t think those old blackout rules are still a thing. I kind of doubt it, and this was an NFL deal anyway.
If a game is blacked out now, it’s generally because of territorial restrictions.
Blackouts don’t occur anymore. It almost reminds me of the old closed circuit days for a Clay/Ali fight.
Exactly. If he were giving them away out of largesse he could do it at the metro transit center downtown.
He’s making you come to his business.
I guess critiquing Mattress Mack’s motivation is fair game. What he did doesn’t bother me.
He is the best, loves Houston, loves UofH!
