Gang,
I didn’t see the game, but I’ve been reading on social media that he was a bit slow and gassed, and that a few times, his own teammates elected not to pass the ball to him when it would have been advantageous to do so.
Not sure how much immediate impact he’ll have, IF all that is true, but I’m sure he’s an outsanding prospect and will have huge upside down the road.
Someone who saw the game (I was watching the Astros last night) please confirm or deny.
Work In Progress… a solid 2-3yr star in the making. Also an imposing figure wide/huge girth), taking up space under/around the basket and looking much bigger than slinky PF
Started fast, running up and down the court but after 2 fouls and 5mins he did look gassed/slow…
Much better on offense (scoring and rebounding) than defending as several times opposing players just drove by him… he also needs to defend and jump rather than just extend put up his arms
Excellent passer as in H1 he had 3 assists
Say what you want about Jo but the man can also be a scout. Here’s an actual scout with the same sentiment.
Diane might start at right tackle for us in the fall before basketball.
This has been an all year thing. Not just the all-American game.
Diane has to drop at least 40 lbs this offseason.
That’s my point, exactly. This isn’t new news for anyone who has paid attention. As you know, most kids around his size and build take more time to develop. I expect him to contribute year 2 and 3, far more than year 1.
This is what people should expect. If he progresses faster, then that’s awesome, but don’t expect him to change the world as soon as he gets here.
I would say that is totally accurate. Anything over 40 is a bonus. Diane needs to get in better condition but I would not in anyway compare him to an Adrian Taylor. He is not that far away. It will come down to his work ethic. If he truly wants to be good he has the coaches to get him there.
Isn’t our roster quota for “project big men” full at the moment with Ced and McFarland?
I think that the UH roster will always have multiple project big men…
How much did Carlton weigh when he played here?
I remember if he was playing well on offense he would get taken out of games because of matchup problems
The difference, this will be a project that sees a lot of playing time
I would NOT refer to Diane as a project. Strengths: really good hands…catches everything. He has really good footwork. Soft touch around the rim and passes well out of the low post. Weaknesses… he is not in elite condition which affects his stamina and quickness. He also has the tendency to drop the ball down instead of keeping it high. All fixable.
It was ridiculous that some have called him a project. How many “projects” play in the McDonald’s game?
Yeah, he’s not a “project” - he’s a freshman. Freshmen who come right in and start are the exception, regardless of their recruiting ranking.
Is three inch vertical fixable (just kidding)
I mean Diane is free to prove me wrong and I hope he does. But all the announcers said was stuff like “raw” “moldable” “needs to learn.” It took guys like Francis, Jwan, even Tugler more than one season to upper level contribute here. After learning for one year Diane will be off to the NBA because he has the measurables and we’ll be right back here next year.
These guys are in the McDonald’s game for their NBA potential, not for what they can contribute to a championship NCAA team. Big difference.
This is my fear also - he leaves before he even gets it cranked up
