I remember listening to Billy Ray Smith, great San Diego Chargers talking about HC Lou Holtz.
"Fantastic human being. After decades HC Lou Holtz was still checking on its players.
GOD BLESS COACH.

I learned more about Coog FB in 2+ hours than I ever knew! He loved CBY.

Funny story:

He said, “This is the way it was back then, I picked up the phone, called Coach Yeoman and said, hey coach, you want to play us in a bowl game?” CBY says, “Sure, which one?” “How about the Bluebonnet?”

Trivia question: can you name a future cougar football player who played against us in the bluebonnet bowl versus North Carolina state who Lou Holtz coached?

Thats great!

That just made my day. Outstanding.

The Naval Academy stadium has famous battles on the walls of the stadium.

Lou Holtz brought Notre Dame in and saw the battles on the walls and quipped “tough schedule”

“During Coach Holtz’s first year at Notre Dame, we were in a 4th down situation with two yards to go and Coach Holtz called a time out. He was trying to figure out whether or not we could get these two yards. The offensive line was already pretty pumped up and so first Coach Holtz asks the right tackle, ‘Can you beat your man?’ And he responds with a resounding, ‘Yes!’ Then he asks the guard, ‘Can you push your guy back?’ And he answers with a resounding ‘Yes!’ He asks the entire line, ‘Can you do it?’ And in unison they say, ‘Yes!’ And then Holtz says, ‘Okay, let’s punt.’”*
