Memories of Montreal, and Canada’s first medal

Nice article about the first Canadian Swim team to medal in the 1976 Olympics. Prior to attending the University of Houston, Anne Jardin Alexander was on that team at only 16 years old. The article tells the stories of each of the team members as well as their thoughts about the East German “women.”

Anne Jardin was inside the change room, only 16 years old and competing in her very first Olympics, when she was startled by the sound of a man’s voice. More than one man, too.

“I was like, ‘Holy mackerel, what’s going on in here?’” she said. “So I stuck my head around the corner, and it was the East German women I was about to swim against.”
