What is the definition of entertainment?

Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience or gives pleasure and delight. It includes various performances, shows, and activities designed to amuse or engage people.
Engagement: Entertainment holds the audience’s attention, making it an engaging experience.
Pleasure: The primary goal is to provide enjoyment and relaxation, allowing individuals to escape from daily routines.
Variety: It includes various forms such as:
Performances: Theater, concerts, and live shows.
Media: Movies, television shows, and streaming content.
Activities: Sports, games, and amusement parks.
Movies, plays? I will either like or not like what I see, watch or hear…but that is by definition my own view/appreciation of it. You and others have their own.
Unfortunately we live in an era where Hollywood has to make a political point in movies/stories that we all like/love. Why does Hollywood have to do that?
By doing so Disney has lost $B’s with some movies that should have been blockbusters. If I know that a movie director is using DEI to put a cast together, toying with the original story I won’t go see the movie.
I absolutely love Trading Places. Could Trading Places be made today? I doubt it.
Instead of inserting political messages Hollywood has to go back to find the right screenplay, produce them into a movie with the original writer’s intentions.
Movie goers are not dumb. If some movie bomb it is either because it is bad (acting/screenplay or both) or it has an added political message that very few people want to see. Some want to include a political message to these movies? At least be open about it.
Vigilante movies?
They have existed since the silence movie era. It reflects injustice and no one likes injustice. It crosses genders and ethnicity. Is it right to make a vigilante movie? The audience/customer is always right. There are tons of vigilante movies that are horrible but is Dirty Harry horrible? Clearly no.
Hollywood is about marketing. What will sell? What is the audience today? Knowing that the same point comes back for every movie we watch. Did we like it? We do? That spreads like fire and that movie becomes a hit.
So much projection. If people like seeing immigrants get killed, that’s their own taste no doubt.
Trading Places could be made today, but they would need to take out the black face scene

Wait, did you not know there were political/social messages in Trading Places?
Also it could be made today, minus the blackface scene. In fact, there are movies made today that deal with the same themes, such as Sorry To Bother You and Get Out. Both movies successful.
Movies, books, plays, music, entertainment in general has always had political and social messages. It is not some new phenomenon.
In more recent years many of the flops that people like to claim failed because of “woke” really failed due to bad scripts, poor marketing, bad timing, and franchise fatigue. It isn’t “woke” that causes the movies to fail. Look at the massive success of Barbie, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Everything Everywhere All At Once. All of those had casting choices, themes, and messaging that people would decry as “woke”. Are there a bunch of similar stinkers? Yes, for sure which only shows that it isn’t the “woke” that causes the failures. If it is, it is also what causes the successes.
My filmmaker cousin holds Uwe Boll in absolutely the LOWEST regard.
That said, I haven’t seen this movie, so I can’t judge it. But remember…if it’s controversial…then in the world of publicity…outrage can sometimes be nearly as good as praise.
As for Boll, yeah, most of his movies are doggie-do.
But Hell, when it comes to war movies, despite its critical acclaim, I’ve always thought that “Apocalypse Now” was about the all-time STUPIDEST movie ever made about war.

Also saw the Odyssey today and thought it was good. Word of warning for anyone sensitive to loud noises, it is a really loud movie , especially in the IMAX.
My son and I watched The Odyssey in IMAX last weekend. And yes, you definitely FEEL the sound, it was resonating through my body. Very cool.
I had no idea it was a 3-hr movie until we left the theater and I looked at my watch. At no time did the movie feel like it was dragging.
My son loved the movie. He’s not read the book, but I gave him a 60-second plot description before we watched it.
He asked how I liked it, and I told him it was very good, but they left out so many details from the book. If they put in every detail of every chapter of the book, it would easily be a 10-hour movie. I told him he needs to read the book to get the whole story.
Masters of the Universe was added to Prime free 99. I loved it. I heard great things about it and it met the hype IMO. Despite its bad box office numbers its getting a sequel.
Saw Odyssey in IMAX yesterday. Yes it’s loud. I heard a reviewer say Nolan’s movies never have memorable music. That’s true but the sound does fit the emotion of the scenes. Anyway, it’s freaking epic and I love the moral tale of giving up a world of trade for War
I told him he needs to read the book to get the whole story.
