Friday Preview

Schedule/results: NCAA Preliminary West Round

Video: Back on SEC+/ESPN+ at 5:30

Coogs Schedule:
1:30pm: Gibbons in the discus
3:15pm: Brome, Stringfellow, Malbrough in the triple jump
5:30pm: 4x100
6:45pm: Dayo and DJ in the 110m hurdles
7:05pm: Six guys in the 100m - they put 4 Coogs in heat 3 including Shaun and Collins
7:20pm: Valentine and Holt in the 400m
7:55pm: Quivell Jordan in the 400m hurdles
8:10pm: Five in the 200m
9:15pm: 4x400

Another note: We have a good chance of taking the facility record in the 4x100 and Shaun could take it in the 100m depending on the wind. Wouldn’t mind the Aggies having to see UH on a couple records there.

I’m in Austin right now and there’s some INTENSE rain and wind going on right now. We’re trapped in the HEB bar, which is not bad considering the beer prices.

If this is heading to College Station, there won’t be any more racing tonight.

Looks like it’s over for the night, just waiting for the official confirmation.

Coach Burrell not too pleased. He has never been shy in his comments about all aspects of T&F.

He is most upset because the 4x400 is right after the 200 and 400 hurdles. As I pointed out we either have Quivell on the relay who would be dead tired after the hurdles or Hamberlin/Booker who might be on their 4th race in less than 4 hours in the heat/sun. I agree the 4x400 should have been pushed to the end like the 5k. I disagree that they were trying to make it distance biased, a 5k in the middle of the day is too brutal. Multiple races for sprinters can be tough but they run fastest in hot conditions, distance runners run fastest in cool to cold weather so pushing them back makes 100% sense.

The 4X400 is always the final event. Now it’s in the middle of this schedule. They should have used the usual format of 5000 and relay being the final 2 events.

It does seem weird. I would say it gives programs with more straight 400 guys a big advantage. Any squads with 3 or 4 guys who only do the 400 will be a lot fresher for the relay. I’m a little confused why he is worried about the 1500 and 5k double. Is that possibly looking towards Nationals and thinking Oregon may get extra points because of this and beat our team score? That is the only top 10-15 program that benefits from it, really aren’t many guys doing both events. BYU and NAU guys went 5k/10k with none doing 1500/5k.

Oh well, 4x100 starting now! Let’s get it!

Ridiculous leg by Shaun but not sure why he let up

Yeah, I wanted the facility record but he is still playing it safe which I can’t hate on. So that was Booker and Hamberlin with Collins/Shaun, right? Let’s see if those guys do the 4x400 too.

Think so but this announcer is lame. I was freaking out thinking they weren’t going to have the video

There is a review on one of the heats. Really hope I was just seeing things, but concerned about our first hand off.
