Georgia Southern also claims that they invented the Whose House chant in 1984, but from what I can tell that seems to be a retcon. They claimed 1989 until the 2010s, at which point it got pushed back to the opening of their stadium.

Hopefully we can normalize honoring your alma mater so much you do not pass on its budding traditions to an unaffiliated sports organization.

Man oh man this is a hot take for a school with the mascot we have for the reasons we have it.
Imagine thinking that Case Freaking Keenum is failing to honor UH sufficiently.
I knew some people would take this post and get their feelings hurt.
He did…and I love Keenum but in this instance he’s wrong and anybody else that agrees with it is too.
Throwing for a million yards does not give you the green light to pass on a tradition to an organization and its fans who do not care for UH in the slightest.
It’s not all on him though. The university should have protected its IP, just like The Cage, and Scott Street Bullies, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

Feelings hurt? No. I just think it’s kinda stupid for a school who literally got its name from a Wazzu alum that loved his prior school to be gatekeeping. Guess we should do the honorable thing and return the name to Wazzu, right?

Coogs (as in a nickname for a mascot) is not the same as a literal chant unique to your alma mater. I don’t understand how you’re seeing those two things as analogous.

Not sure. But I’m willing to bet we didn’t get the exact cadence from Run DMC. That’s the main issue here. The Ram’s iteration is literally a copy and paste of our exact cadence. Except instead or Coogs, they insert Rams.
Inexcusable, and you would think some of us diehards and our administration would be fighting harder to gatekeep it given the overall apathetic disposition of our alumni base.
