We need viable practice players in case injuries happen to 1-10. Given our history……
Not long ago I found a photo of our 1983 Phi Slamma Jama team.
It had 14 players.
In 1983 the max ship level was less than 14 so…
I looked it up.
In 1983 the scholarship limit was 15.
There were 15 on that roster. Only 7 players averaged more than 10 minutes a game though. There were 5 players who played in 11-15 games respectively and averaged less than 3 minutes a game. Basically we had a mop up crew
Am simply agreeing with Sampson that UH does not need 15 on our roster.
We are at 11 and Sampson says he has 2 more coming, both to be redshirted.
Need bodies / players for practices ![]()
It always a fine “balance” Transitioning from HS sports to college is a major step up. To have the “luxury” of “grooming” two players is only good for the players themselves but for the “regulars” and the Coaching staff. The nfl practice squad has a similar “angle” to these “red shirts” guys.
I don’t know. I’ve been next to some of our guys that clearly fudged their height by 1-2 inches. Maybe it’s a with shoes or without thing.
Didn’t realize this until listening to the No Country for Old Med podcast but they mentioned the last time we had a true 4 big man rotation was the 2022 season with Carlton, Roberts, Chaney, and White. Looked it up and all of those got over 10 minutes each and played in nearly every game. The very next season we also had a rotation with Walker, Roberts, Francis, and Chaney although Francis played a bit less of a role and we leaned heavily on Walker that season.
It will be nice to get back to that kind of ball. Those were the teams that would offensive rebound like mad and could pound it inside. 2 seasons ago we could heavily lean on Roberts to do those things but this past season we didn’t have that presence and it showed. Looking forward to playing bully ball again.
Did you know that podcast has an ISU insider? So weird
Yeah i mentioned this team was giving me 2022 Elite 8 vibes. No one thought they would be a national title team and they would have been despite the injuries to Sasser & Mark
It really, really gripes me that Haugh is coming back to Florida. Of all the teams I really don’t want to see win the natty again, Florida tops the list–not only because they beat us, but because I can’t stand Haugh and Condon in particular (and I thought they’d both be gone!)-and now they have an excellent chance of winning the whole g-d thing again. Please god, no!
One of those guys in that podcast lives in Iowa.
Our Old Men podcast? That’d be @IowaCoog you’d be referencing, and he’s no iSU insider he’s a Coog through and through. Just happens to live in Iowa, like I just happen to live in Cali.
No, there’s another Cyclone insider, IowaCoog referenced him in the podcast, but not by name
That would be me. ![]()
You referenced an ISU insider in the podcast, and he’s a good one
I’ll keep my own ISU insider. We go to basketball games together
