Who knows. Maybe he had talked to some people about the possibility of retiring this year. Then some “insiders” got super excited to have a story for clicks? Trilly clearly got absolutely depantsed. And some of our fans (not you) seemed to be cheering it on, it was weird. Also I don’t include the NebCoog who simply posted what Trilly was saying.
Recruiting? I feel the recruiting chess games are starting even though the tournament hasn’t ended yet.

I think people underestimate how hard it will be for him to walk away from coaching. Two factors could push him in that direction - win the whole deal or health issue. And I know he wants to win the whole thing, but I think what he REALLY wants is to close out a season without having to watch his guys walk off the floor with a loss.

I grew-up and had a family friend who was the head coach at the local JUCO. It took him a long time to finally decide it was time to retire. Even after that, he was paid to scout for NCAA Div. 1 schools.
Last time I saw him was at my parents 50th wedding anniversary in 2018. He told me how he personally knows Kelvin Sampson and said we hired a great man.
