I like your idea @UH1927, but until the NCAA allows universities to become more directly involved with NIL, there is still an appearance of conflict of interest. I do think the NCAA is moving in that direction. Most P4s have some sugar daddys that would do exactly what you are proposing. Unfortunately, then it becomes an arms race.
The Athletic reports that Florida St.’s NIL budget for football is around $12M.
- There is no way UH can compete at that level.
- Florida St.’s ROI this year is 0.00%
We could easily have a $10m NIL budget for the football team. We have over 300k plus alum. If we pitched in and raised $5 mil, Uncle Fertitta would probably match that
AGAIN, the NIL does NOT create talent…it just pays them…you still need synergy, chemistry and coaching and need someone to identify which players you need to add…almost like a GM role which is what im expecting from our new AD.
You need to be very selective how you fill in your roster with “greedy NIL first type of players”
Texas A&M threw a bunch of money out there and got a bunch of selfish players.
I like what our basketball team does…target a specific need/ role and pay NIL to acquire that type of player to augment the chemistry but the TEAM always comes first.
Lol these 18 year olds and 20 year old transfers aren’t picking schools based on facilities. Ahem Travis Hunter re: Jackson State.
It’s about money. And we spent it poorly. Pez was a facilities guy. He had no clue what to do w NIL.
My Saturday morning buddy at Little Gym says that the main UF NIL donor told AD & Sankey in a meeting that he has 2 years left. Then it’s not fiscally responsible for him to keep writing checks. Especially when recruits ask for another $50k for their Uncle the day before signing day.
Yep… this NIL bubble isn’t sustainable
