After being interviewed numerous times it’s possible that his wording could get mixed up. I think if you asked him, he would tell you he could have worded it better. To me, it’s no big deal.
Awesome. My last walk around campus was 2-3 years ago. Did she like UH?
None of this would have happened if Sam had found out that Ed’s family is from Louisiana and is still very emotionally tied there. Duarte’s piece is crystal clear. I understand what Ed meant and it makes perfect sense. That is what happens when journalists do their job fully. Unfortunately Sam is a U of H Alum. Up until this piece he was great covering us when used to.
I don’t think Sam intended to not list where he is from. The problem is: we all make mistakes. But we shouldn’t crucify him for his mistake. The readers like us should have picked that up, knowing that there was probably no ill will. Don’t get critical of either ED or Sam. Relax. It is football season!!
I think we look really thin skinned if we are upset over any of this
It’s like when I picked my TDECU season ticket location. I coulda been down in the front row in the West endzone. Instead I chose to be at the 40 yard line. Sometimes…I regret not being right there by the field. Still love my seats.
It’s the Cougar way
The only people upset are people who didn’t read the article.
I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been locked yet. Any publicity is good. I don’t think he meant to throw us under the bus and we should all be glad he made the right decision. Ed chose UofH for whatever reason. It was a good choice.
Apparently Ed read the girls concerns on coogfans.
All the records an accolades Ed will win/earn will be tied to my/his university!
Spin it however you want. ED OLIVER + UH, peas and carrots, pb and jam.
Yep, Ed has done plenty to rep UH at home and nationally. He was vocal in his support for UH during the coaching change and plenty of times. No need to overreact on one interview where he talks about being a fan of LSU growing up. He’s forever a Coog and all the magazine covers, award displays and interviews are red and white with with Houston across the chest.
Remove the homeless camps under I-45?
I’m fine with the article and as stated, Ed being considered a top 10 (if not top 5) NFL draft pick by most experts, contradicts any argument stating going to UH would have been negative for is future. Frankly, I think he has received more pub and shown more of a stand-out player because of it.
no they don’t, lsu can’t use this as a recruiting tool
Not every Cougar will be Jim Nantz or Case Keenum. Just look at Andre Ware.
I wonder if Oliver regrets what he said? He should. Either way this site has a tendency to fall in love with “stars” like Tom Herman - and then get burned when they turn out to be human like the rest of us.
Will this hurt recruiting? No, I doubt it. Just like Ed Oliver, every recruit has their own reason for choosing UH (or any other school).
Man we are all getting bent out of shape over a small quite in an otherwise positive article.
I get it, it’s not the best phrasing possible. But it happens he reps us hard and talks the school up constantly. Wondering what might have been going to a school he was a huge fan of growing up is natural.
If you have read articles about the Oliver’s you know they are from and still have family in Louisiana. You would also know that Ed came to UH because his brother came here and his father said he was following his brother. Anybody upset over this article needs to chill and remember all the times Ed has been our biggest cheerleader …
This is all media silliness. Like the rest of us, Ed is and always will be a Cougar. Fact Jack!!!
It seems like maybe you’re the one that didn’t read the article if you say “he just said his brother is the reason he came here” as the comment that is being misconstrued? He said he hates that he didn’t go to LSU and made the joking comment about getting a degree from there. It’s not to hard to twist that. Obviously if you read the full article (which I did!) it seems like he’s happy he came here.
Based on your posting history I’m fairly confident that if there was an interview with Jackson Jeffcoat, Jarett Allen or some other high profile recruit we had a good shot at that chose another school saying he hates that he didn’t go to UH and wants to get a degree from here your take on this would not be the same.
In any event, it’s not that big of a deal and obviously pales in comparison to all the awesome attention Ed is bringing to the program. But it’s just a little unfortunate that it can be used as a rebuttal (even unjustifiably) to the message our program is actively sending out that you can come to UH and still potentially be a #1 overall draft pick.
UH’s body of work is bigger than Big Ed. We should be more concerned about our last two seasons of marginal football.
