if you don’t turn the valve handles opposite the way the pipes are it will frreze up no matter the coverings. Also the 2 little screws have to be turned or the pressure will be too much and top cover – bkup valve, I thk it’s called will break. I speak from exp from abt 8 yrs ago. Now I do everything in November and don’t turn back on till March.

Thanks for the tips. My lawn guys have always told me to have a light watering from late Nov through early March going back years. I have often utilized the coverings when we have threatned below freezing temps. I was in Florida during the 2011 freeze in Jan was the last time it blew.

I found this watering guidelines for far west Houston. Not surprising it is driven by temps during the winter months which isn’t a surprise.
