Offense Was Embarrassing

One offensive TD combined against four D1 first team defenses (UNLV, OU, Cincy, Iowa St).

Hasn’t been this bad since Helton’s second year in 1994 where we suffered three shutouts (two back to back) and scored more than 13 points once all season.

Yup.

That’s the closest comparison!

Best chance to score is vs TCU and KU. After that we are looking at 3 potential shutouts before we get to BU.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but this play was definitely designed for the possibility for the TE to score the TD with most of the defense shading towards the right side of the field.

And DS had a clean pocket as well so he wasn’t running for his life.

Seems he threw to the only guy with a defender close to him.
TE is alone in the EZ.

I thought I was dreaming last night, watching a Helton/Dimel game from the 90’s or early 2000

But then saw an ad for a new Apple phone from Verizon or T-Mobile.

Another thing - our O-line was committing penalties when ISU was only rushing 3… insane

I was losing my mind after this play took place. TE splits the coverage on the seem route. NOPE! LET’S THROW TO THE RB ON THE WHEEL!!

Well, If you are in MLB, batting 8 for 20 is .400, which will get you on the HOF. If you are OC, it will get you fired.

That 1994 football team had used 3 quarterbacks. Chuck Clements, Chad O’Shea and Clay Helton. All had NFL type height. Chuck Clements was 6-3 and was a 6th round NFL draft pick.

The major UH problem is Ui Ale is listed as 6’0. I would not be surprised if he was under 5’11.
Many HC’s in passing O’s want a QB 6’3 or taller. Case Keenum, Greg Ward, D. King, Danny Davis, Gary Mullins, D.C. Nobles do not measure up in height. So, you really expect either our present and former HC’s to start Ale. Really? Kim Helton played his 3rd string QB in 1994, oh but that was his son Clay. Yes it would be great if Willie would start Ale just to shut up the fans.

But Coach Willie is used to having teams play at home with Rice attendance numbers or worse while at Tulane. So what if fans stay home, he will still be making 5 mil a year.

So quit complaining, Our present QB has joined elite company as a QB to start for a UH team that lost back to back scoreless games (Bo Burris 1965). He also became the 1st UH QB to start at QB for a team that was held scoreless in a game in back to back seasons since Jack Skog did it in 1963 and 1964. But QB1 is the only UH QB to start for a team that went back to back seasons with a scoreless games and back to back scoreless games in a season. This legacy he alone now possesses.

So, If allowed to continue to start at QB for the remainder of the season he can
be the 1st UH QB to start for a UH team that had three consecutive scoreless games, and
be the 1st UH QB to start for a team that had 4 or more scoreless losses in a season.

So keep Ale on the bench, after all, besides being to small, Ale was a 2023 "First team fall all-academic Big 12 Conference. Let him transfer to Rice, to short, to academic for our O. HAHA.

The offense lacks talent.

We can vilify the OC all we want, but the fact remains we lack the personnel to run an effective offense.

Agree. I mean we had holding penalties against a three-man rush, with plenty of time the QB missed a WIDE OPEN receiver in the end zone and instead threw an INT, the other QB missed an open receiver on a short route by a good three yards, receivers were apparently running wrong routes, the one or two times we did have a big play it was called back because of a penalty. I could be wrong. Maybe it’s all on the offensive coordinator, but to me we are just sorely lacking talent on offense, especially at the most important positions, quarterback and offensive line.

Chad O’Shea is the most successful UH player to coach in the NFL. The man has three Super Bowl rings.

Did not know that, much better HC (obviously) than a QB.

Hey, heard on a blog that next week against TCU, Holgorsen is an advisor on the team. Also mentioned several former UH assistant coaches on the TCU staff.

Wow, do you think they would love to be the team that gave UH another scoreless game and have UH achieve the schools first ever 3 consecutive scoreless games in a season.
Nah, they would empty their bench and allow UH to kick a field goal with under a minute remaining. After all, they love UH.

There are issues with the talent on offense, nobody is disputing that. Is it the WORST talent in the entire nation?

This is 100% on the OC and Fritz.

Last. Dead Last

CWF’d QB recruit for next year is 5’10.5” 185lb Austin Carlisle.

What if Ale is hurt?

It shouldn’t take him long to identify the way to attack our offense. He’s gonna have a lot of free time this week.
