One big school that could potentially hire Art Briles next season

"One potential scenario to keep an eye on is at Briles’ old program – Houston."

.

Utter non-sense and complete speculation.

If we were looking for a coach next year, I would think that Briles would not be a candidate due to the stink he carries with him.

If Herman decided to leave…give me TO…or give me death.

Agreed

It would seem to me that the most likely places for Art would be either Auburn or LSU. Either school may want to upgrade in order to compete and beat Alabama. And of course LSU is closer to his Texas recruiting base.

If we go undefeated this season and Tom Herman does get pursued heavily by someone like a USC or UT or LSU, then he would most likely plan on taking his current staff (including both our OC and DC) with him. Let’s just hope that UH gets into the Big 12 and that Tom sticks around for a lot more years.

No chance. RK will never allow that as we’d probably lose political clout in Austin as well as the uproar that would occur on campus.

I would also say that it’s highly unlikely he is at any P5 next year. Andy Staples brought up a good point: if you’re a president or AD, do you really want to risk nothing coming out after you hire him? This was a guy that won a ton at Baylor, enough to get a stadium built, and after the board heard the Pepper Hamilton report, they fired him. That’s a sign that there’s blood on his hands.

Briles should just go be an OC in the NFL for awhile; save everyone the trouble.

I think its likely that Art will be the head coach of a prominent college FB program within the next 90 to 120 days. The success he achieved at Baylor was off the charts!

If we hire Art, I’m dropping my season tix.

I think you and thousands others would follow. I would never support this hire. Fortunately this is just slow news day chitter chatter from fox sports.

We’ll hire Briles as a custodian and he’ll be writing up plays on chalk boards like he was Will Hunting.

Exactly what I was thinking. Khator has worked too long and hard to get us where we are, and she’s not about to blow it. This is utter drivel.

If and I mean IF Herman leaves, we’ll hire one of the coordinators, either Orlando or Applewhite.

Also, given how he left UH, I suspect he’s burned the coaching bridge.

I hope it never comes to this but I am with you.

“And I’d like to introduce our new coach, Bart Triles. Bart, quit messing with your goatee and come up here and say a few words.”

Didn’t this guy leave us in a lurch when he left the first time, before a bowl game, taking all of his assistants with him?

Should not be eligible for rehire !!

Someone need not apply either as I heard he missed three practices the week leading up to the south Mississippi game where we got our asses kicked because we were unprepared

That should read Sumlin, not someone

I don’t know why the thought of hiring Briles or Sumlin would ever cross anyone’s mind. With Herman we have shown we can do much better that those two. Briles will never win anything big because he doesn’t believe in defense or special teams. And Sumlin has shown repeatedly he can’t win anything other than a single big game from time to time (if he has an all-world QB to work with). I just don’t think Herman is going anywhere any time soon. He knows being at Houston is his best chance to win big, recruit big and has said repeatedly that his whole family loves being here. He knows this admin will take very good care of him and give him essentially anything he asks for. Going to be really tough to find a better situation than that.
