It seems like this game comes down to Arizona’s offense versus Houston’s defense. The Cougars will present a very difficult test for Arizona’s offense on Saturday. If Khalil Tate can find consistency moving the ball, fans should feel good about the Wildcats’ chances of leaving town with the victory.
Arizona’s defense will also need to apply a better pass rush than they did in Week 1. The Wildcats did not record a single sack against BYU and rarely found themselves hurrying Tanner Mangum.

Although these are highlights, look at the line of scrimmage play on both sides of the ball from Arizona. There is a glaring weakness there.
Agree. Also Tate doesn’t really sell the run well. Hopefully our DBs learn to locate the ball, I can see them giving up some of those bombs. We’ll have to hope our safeties can get over in time to help.
If the weather is as bad as it’s predicted to be, we have a better advantage due to Tate not being as accurate of a passer as King. Sumlin would be an idiot if he allows Tate to throw the ball 30 times in the rain, on the road. Who ever can run the ball and stop the run wins this one. I like our chances better.
You all have to remember that BYU is never an easy Team to play against. They have a huge support in Arizona from the local Mormon population. In some cases it becomes a 50/50 crowds. I expect scumlin wanting to make a point on his return. There is no crystal ball but we have to be as sound as we can be. As always the line of scrimmage will give us the answer. Don’t expect what did not or work last week to repeat itself. Every opponent bring different match ups. Again, we have to have an answer for JJ Taylor. In case he is able to run we will have some issues. Simplistic? Maybe but it would be a major error for scumlin to not involve Taylor as much as he can. That opens up all possibilities for Tate to play to his strengths. Poindexter “burned” us on occasions last year so you can imagine what match ups scumlin will try to exploit.
I think it will be a close game. I think we win by a touchdown. I also don’t think either offense is going to rack up a bunch passing. There won’t be any 50/50 crowd here, but if CMA/CMD want’s the crowd to stay in the game our defense better be able to get off the field a lot quicker than last week.
I wouldn’t say never. ECU of all teams beat them 33-17 last year. But that was last year
Comparing 4 different teams is hard as well. I like to look at match ups. Our strengths vs their weaknesses, and vice versa. People had the same type of caution about USF last year and I told them time and time again, their weakness played into our strengths. We will win this game due to similar circumstances.
Arizona 2018 is a slightly better version of 2017. Their DLine is still small and the D overall is undersized.
They have a quick scatback who was a freshman last year. #19 at WR is outstanding.
Overall, they aren’t a very good team. The question is, are we any better?
Just out of curiosity, what makes you think this? The way I see it, our passing defense is our weak spot, so Zona might put up some numbers there even with Tate throwing the ball. And based on game 1 performance (yes, I know it’s just one game), it seems like passing will be our strength this year, or least will be used to open up the run game. I can see both teams putting up a ton of passing yards this game, weather permitting.
Forecast is getting a little better. AccuWeather calling for sun and clouds in the AM with showers and a possible T-storm in the afternoon. That’s not too different from a normal day. Still, bring a poncho!
My buddy picked these up today. They’ll either be to shield us from the rain or Kevin Sumlin’s tears.
I was assuming (and hoping) the weather would be bad. lol I think we’d win a muddy game more likely than a normal weather game. But if the weather is fine this game could literally be a “toss-up”.

On how Houston compares to last year: “They seem like the same team. They have a new offensive coordinator but they’re still going to be more of a spread offense so we can really watch a lot of last year’s film and study that the same way we did last year and we’ll be good.”
