its weird timing for sure, makes you think there has to be more to it
His retirement was timed to give his friend a chance to succeed him.

18 year olds have never been held to a 4 year contract. They have always had the ability to transfer, however under the old rules they had to sit for a year at their new schools. And letâs not forget they were getting a free education and an opportunity to develop and show their skills to the NBA.
Hardly anyone going to the NBA gets a degree.
Showing out for the NBA is great for 3 stars and less useful the higher your stock is out of high school.
NBA scouts love college for giving them a good dataset for evaluation on a decently level playing field. But all of them would take a 5 star out of high school before taking most 4 star in college if they were given the chance.
How many kids make the nba every year? 50-60? A lot get contracts in the d league or Europe or somewhere else. But over 1200 players every year lose there eligibility each year. If they can make a buck they should be allowed to do it every year.
Someone please tell an unselfish fan version on why it is bad that these young men can take advantage of their talents and get paid?
Theyre recruiting all year, those recruits will decomit.
Then you miss out on the transfer portal because youâre trying to hire a coach. Explain to me again why thats perfect?

Old rules SUCKED!!!
If one is being paid by the school to play a sport, why do they have to go to class? Are professors required to take classes? I understand that, in theory, the student/athletes are required to do SOMETHING to earn their NIL money, but who determines the value of an appearance somewhere? Need some sort of regulations on NIL contracts, if there are, in fact, contracts.
Time the f*** out.
So when the players pushed to be treated like men, wanted to get paid, wanted the freedom to transfer, ânegotiateâ their role on the team, and for the media to chastise the Pete Carrolâs and John Calipariâs of the world for bolting to greener pastures before sanctions are brought down; itâs completely fine. Now that the playing field is leveled, coaches arenât allowed be human and quit on their own terms?
This dude obviously couldnât sleep at night making the decision he made.
I never once said he couldnât or shouldnât be allowed to quit. I said itâs a sh#tty thing to do, the same applies to a player that up and quits on his team.
