OT/Discussion: Is Alabama’s dynasty over?

Man, Law…you are so out of touch with NIL and how it works.

Ohio State, in Columbus, had a NIL of $20 million in 2024 and MANY of those donations were from Columbus area Corporations (Bucket #2).

Here is just one example of a corporation backed NIL deal

Alabama, in tiny Tuscaloosa, will fall behind because there are NO BIG Corporations in their small metro to fill Bucket #2

NIL is a TWO BUCKET deal…a brand comprised of poor T-Shirt fans WILL NOT compete with the Ohio States and Texas of the world that can fill both buckets due to their market size + rich alums

Bad news for Alabama, LSU and the poor small market SEC schools…GREAT news for the Houston’s of College Football

GIVE IT TIME

Uh…the point I was disputing was your theory that market was the reason for OSU’s NIL success.

It’s NOT. It’s their brand size which gives them a super massive fan base with lots of money that cares enough about sports to give to the NIL honeypot.

Period, full stop.

Being in the 35th largest market isn’t a difference maker.

Bama does have a large fan base, but it does not have the money that OSU’s does, hence Bama’s inability to keep up.

The fact that Columbus is bigger than Tuscaloosa is NOT the reason for their NIL difference.

As for the MLS, again, you may be literally the only person here that considers the MLS to be a major league on par with the Big Four.

Being the top level of pro soccer in the USA no more makes the MLS a major league than MLR being the top level of pro rugby competition in the USA makes it a major league.

Of course, neither is a major league comparable to the Big Four.

Dude!

Did you even read the article?

Ohio State has one of the largest NIL’s because of donations from Columbus area businesses which helped them win their first championship in over a decade.

I give up…lol

Duh…because they are in Tuscaloosa.

Now you’re arguing my point…ha

No, it is because their fam base simply doesn’t have as many people with money to give.

Had nothing to do with the city.

Did you even read the article…lol

I literally gave you proof

You have no idea how NIL works

You should give up.

As I said, no one but you considers the MLS a major league.

Those Columbus businesses that give do so PRECISELY because they are run by OSU FANS with money.

OSU’s super massive brand gives them those fans running those businesses with money.

NOT the market.

As I said, large fan base with money.

NOT the market.

STOP TWISTING WHAT IM SAYING

Im going to say it one last time…so you understand

Columbus, Ohio is big enough of a market to house a MLS team, the pro soccer league in the United States…they have a squad in EVERY major US market.

NOWHERE did i say MLS is as big as the NFL or MLB…
Nowhere

Sure I do.

Schools like aTm have large fan bases with money, even though they aren’t in large markets, and they give money to buy top players.

Schools like GaTech and Cal don’t, dispute being in larger markets, so their NIL sucks.

If you think otherwise, then YOU don’t know how NIL works.

YES…

Texas A&M is outstanding at Bucket #1 but let me ask you this

Who is the big corporate NIL sponsor for the Aggies bucket #2?

Uhhhhh……

You listed MLS together with NHL as proof Columbus was a major league city.

No. Just no.

NHL would qualify at a bare bones minimum level.

MLS does not.

Having a MLS franchise does NOT make a city major league because MLS is NOT a major league in the sense that the big four are.

Im going to say it one more time…like you are a kindergartener

Columbus is a city in Ohio…they have 2.2 people in their metro and are BIG enough of a market that they have 2 teams in the top 5 professional leagues in the United States/Canada along with numerous other large corporations

A huge chunk of their NIL collective comes from the corporations in their metro

Tuscaloosa has NONE of those elements

That’s FALSE too.

Columbus is the #35 market and it has a MLS franchise.

Cleveland is #19 and DOESN’T.

So no.

The MLS is NOT in every major market.

That’s false

YOU don’t know what you are arguing.

Having a MLS franchise doesn’t make you a major league city, as you suggested.

Because they picked Columbus over Cleveland…actually a better move.

Columbus is the Austin of Ohio…a market with far more potential than the Mistake on the Lake

This thread’s title is:
Alabama’s dynasty over
Now it has evolved into debating MLS vs NHL.
Mods question:
Do you want to create a new thread titled MLS vs NHL?

If you do create a new thread this is for Ryon.
I was with the Galaxy and USSOCCER from 1996 (when the MLS started) to 2002. At the time every (or close to) MLS franchise was owned by an nfl owner. Be the Hunt family, Kraft family and so on. These nfl owners knew from the start that it was an investment, a long term investment. Anyone that knows about business knows that nfl owners are 90% of the time great investors. They did not become billionaires by winning the local state lottery.
Not only is MLS a major league but here is a good way to get yourself educated Ryon.

Obviously there is a gap. How long has the NHL and MLS been in business?
NHL: 1917
MLS: 1996
Like it or not Ryon the MLS is on par to surpass the NHL. It might not happen today but MLS franchises values increase from 1996 is quite astonishing. Don’t get me wrong I love the NHL. But the NHL has one fundamental problem or achilles heel. The game does not translate to TV.
This is from Gallup:

There is another point that needs to be brought up. The U.S. market has the best leagues NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. The MLS is not the best soccer league and far from it. But guess what? The MLS has positioned itself in all or almost all best U.S. tv market. This is not by coincidence. MLS is indeed a major league.

First of all, 1927 brought up the MLS as proof of Columbus being a “major league city,” so blame him, not me.

Second….

In terms of revenues and TV ratings, it isn’t close.

The last Stanley Cup averaged 4.2 million viewers.

The last MLS cup……only about 470,000, despite being broadcasted on both English and Spanish networks.

The NHL generated over $6 billion in revenue its last season.

The MLS…only $1.8 billion.

IT AIN’T CLOSE.

The NHL is a FAR more popular and lucrative professional league, based on that.

Don’t let anyone falsely tell you any differently.

Second, the NFL, NBA, and MLB are all the undisputed best leagues in their respective sports worldwide.

The MLS……NOT CLOSE. Not even top five.

Hey listen. I’ve been to more MLS matches in my lifetime than NHL matches (6 versus 1).

But the idea that the MLS will ever be regarded as a major league in the USA in the same sense that the Big Four (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL) are during our lifetimes….is RIDICULOUS!!!

It simply isn’t…and that’s why it was dumb for 1927 to use that as proof that Columbus is a “major league city.”

Ridiculous? Tell that to all of the MLS owners.
Not even top five? Who else do you have in mind? The shuffle board National league maybe?

The MLS is barely a Top Ten professional soccer league worldwide.

By contrast, the NFL, NBA, and MLB are the undisputed #1 leagues worldwide in each of their respective sports.

No comparison there.

Give it up.

You clearly are not reading posts. What did I write about the MLS when it comes to soccer league ranking. Take your time to read posts. It is not that difficult.
So if another league is above the MLS who are they?

By the way: can you stop with your bro, give it up and other remarks?

In soccer?

There are MANY!!!

La Liga, Bundesliga, English Premier League….

Silly question.

By contrast…NO professional football league in the world ranks above the NFL, no baseball league above MLB, no basketball league above the NBA, and no hockey league above the NHL.

See the difference?
