OT: Georgia Bill Exempting NIL From State Income Tax

The Georgia Legislature introduced Senate Bill 71, which exempts NIL payments from Georgia state income tax.

SEC states that have a state income tax are:
Alabama
Arkansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
Oklahoma
South Carolina

If passed, recruiting edge to Georgia. Florida and Texas do not have a state income tax.

Nicely enough, it’s an NIL recruiting advantage for us as well!

That exempts “a student athlete at a postsecondary educational institution” I wonder if the Braves, Falcons and Hawks have started working on redrafting their contracts as mostly NIL with the players taking online classes because that’s pretty vague.

It appears Alabama and Illinois are next in line to introduce legislation to exempt NIL payments from State Income Tax.

So the next time I get a job offer in Georgia, can I get the company to pay my salary as NIL money and evade the state income tax?

Sounds like they should exempt state income tax for everyone…

I’d be pissed…
