I was talking about football and the FCS playoffs though.
If an Ivy can be ranked in the FCS Top 20, and their champ often is, then I suspect that they are good enough to complete in the playoffs.
How long before some Wall Street Finance Bro decides he wants to buy a title and pays out $10s of millions to do so?
Ask the Yankees and Mets lol
Ha, add the Dodgers too. The Dodgers are literally owned by PE Bros (and Magic Johnson, who at this point is pretty much a PE Bro too).
I think Yale upset Auburn in the tournament last year.
The Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel played at Yale too.
There is one thing that I often wondered, so I looked into it recently.
The Ivy League, in theory, has no athletic scholarships.
So does Division 3.
But the Ivy League only has 8 football schools. D3 has 243.
The 8 Ivy League schools have nine players on NFL rosters last I checked. The 243 D3 schools collectively only have 6.
So obviously there’s a difference in the level of “non-scholarship” athletic talent at the Ivy League level and the D3 level.
@Cougardue’s nephew plays for Brown, and he definitely has at least FCS level athletic talent.
In my view, the Ivy champ, if undefeated, should be strongly considered for a I-FCS playoff berth. I suspect we will see an Ivy win a playoff game here and there.
Again, those football and men’s basketball players likely have “need based financial aid” that is nearly equivalent to an athletic scholarship at other schools.
