I’ll never forget Scumlin running the punt team out on the field and Case emphatically waiving them off so he could at least try and win the game.

I yelled at Sumlin “you cost us a sugar bowl Sumlin!” He said he was glad I got that off my chest. This was at the Arizona game, at halftime I went back down close to the tunnel and told him now you’re gonna get your a whipped!

I thought it was Briles who made that decision. 
People forget that Briles had just signed a 5 year contract extension at UH the year before he left. As I remember, rumors were swirling toward the end of the 2007 season that Briles was being courted by Baylor, and Briles reassured everyone that he was “still the UH Head Coach”, and hours later, he was being introduced as Baylor’s new Head Coach.
As I guess as dishonest as it sounds, that is the way the game is played.
