Thank you, this is excellent. I had heard it was in the works and I am happy the parties finally came together.

This is a win to improve community health in Southeast Texas.

Princeton?!?

Unfortunately, HCA has a horrendous reputation as far as residencies go, at least for some specialties. Just a poorly run, for profit hospital overall. Better than nothing. TMC is just saturated with Baylor , McGovern and Methodist residents. Things will change though as UH grows as a medical school, they’re still very young as an institution.

First time reading this, a lot of interesting notes

It’s already a traditional campus in the eyes of several thousand students that live, study, and socialize on campus. It’s just going to get bigger and better.

That take is wrong because the University of Houston already provides the setting and amenities of a top-tier university—new stadiums, residence halls, student centers, and research facilities show it has invested heavily in the “traditional” campus experience. At the same time, UH’s strength is its unique mix: it serves both commuter/first-gen students and students seeking the full residential experience, reflecting Houston’s diverse population. Framing UH as financially burdened without 75% “traditional” students is misleading since all major public universities subsidize amenities, and UH’s growth is also driven by research, enrollment, and community impact. Instead of lacking, UH has built its own model as a leading urban Tier One research university.

Yes

AND no.

We also moved over 4000 undergrad technology students completely off campus and essentially made “super-commuters” out of them.

And of course, Whitmire blocked the freshman housing mandate.

I’ll leave it up to the coach of the Cougar Dolls to determine who gets to be a Cougar Doll.

If the individual meets the criteria for being a Cougar Doll and is selected based on the performance in the audition. I don’t have an issue with it. Let the Cougar Doll Director do his/her job.

This is an issue that people have a firm view and will not be swayed one way or the other.

Ah, yes, surely this is the biggest issue on the AD’s plate given that nobody brought it up until a week after the game

Wow !

The campus is empty on Sudays you say? If you lived on campus in the City of Houston, wouldn’t you want to try some of the local places, instead of the campus Chipotle or Taco Bell? How about a Michelin or James Beard rated restaurant, or one of the hundreds of ethnic restaurants from around the world? This isn’t some small town college, where the only options are a Dixie Chicken type place.

If we end up with 10k students actually on campus not counting the other 2 or 3 k right around campus like the article says at 13k , we will be a residential campus at the 25% . 1 out of 4 on campus with such a big enrollment will be enough. Still room for commuters.

Also downtown is developing that 7 street block off of traffic for the World Cup by
2026 so downtown is an extension of things to do by light rail for students.

And yes, we will have way more than a Dixie chicken A&M deal. I visited A&M here and there and they have a cool area with Dixie chicken and some cool bars close by but our downtown after 2026 will be very cool after the World Cup developments just a light rail away.

We’re gonna have a cool campus in about 1 yr with plenty of options.

Combined with our 100 yr plan with campus improvements

Gonna be a great campus

We aren’t going to discuss who people do or don’t like seeing with the Cougars dolls here. If you’d like to talk about that, please do it elsewhere.

Don’t know why we would want to emulate a small private Catholic University like Georgetown, we were talking traditional universities. UH is changing, I never saw 8500 students at a Thursday night game and wanting more. Greek life seems to get students more connected to the university in a traditional way.
