OT: SEC Commissioner wants to change the playoff seeding because it made them look bad

I agree with the seeding rules needing to be changed but not for the same reasons he does.

Clearly the sec is not happy sharing the money. This is the first salvo of many. Stay tuned.

lol good luck to him. For the duration of the current playoff contract (I think it has 3 more years) he ain’t getting jack sh!t by way of any more concessions!

It’s the next contract where I expect SEC/B1G to really make some seriously unreasonable demands!

Sankey is leaning on that Strength of Schedule fallacy to try to claim better payouts. The SOS is BS argument. Win and get rewarded. If you don’t like it, the schools can move to an “easier” conference. Not like the SEC is dominating the bowl games because of their “tough SOS”.

This is the biggest non-story in the CFP.

The sec and big10 ignored or failed to realize that too many big dogs in 1 conf can cause such issues. Texas, OU , Lsu Bama, GA ,Tenn , Auburn etc all are used to winning big or being rewarded in their conference but the reality is former powers will decline once too many are forced together. Neb and Arkansas are recent examples. So to help ease the pain they want a 9 and 3 Bama in the mix. The best thing is to have a few top dogs in each conf like it used to be yrs ago. The way out now is to expand the playoffs which is likely in the future. The sec from this yrs results with ND beating Ga is no longer the top conf. Nil and transferring is creating more parity. Yrs ago ND couldn’t compete with top sec teams.

The SEC is unhappy? TFB

No I think the SEC failed to realize that its entire power premise was based on Bama and UGA, with LSU mixed in. Now that Texas is there, my bet is that Bama and LSU see a fall in their fortunes.

They will learn what everyone else learns when dealing with The T Sips: they can’t ever lose.

The SEC wants all the big name schools for the money, but doesn’t want to suffer the consequences of them actually having to play each other and the resulting hit to their W-L records.
Too bad, if you want all the money there’s a price to be paid.

And, the SEC is going to realize the toxin they’ve invited into their midst by accepting Texas into the fold.

Great points but unfortunately you already know the answer to the “price to be paid.” This is why all of this sec cfp talk non sense pushes us closer than ever to the p2’s.

I have always felt like the should bring back the BCS computer rankings and use the top 12 of that for a playoff. The other option would be just have a tournament of champions. Let all the conference champion play each other towards the march to the title game. If teams get blown out and then they get blown out.
