OT: UH welcomes record-breaking 2024 Freshman class

There was a slight tightening as we entered the Campaign season but I spoke with a Mexican National, who works for the Mexican Embassy here in Houston and his exact words when describing the Southern border were:

It is Pure Anarchy Right Now

His exact Words…not mine and This was not a Spin from one of the R or D catered networks, this was from an actual legal employee that works in the Mexican Embassy and deals with the issues on a daily basis.

What is Cult 45?

Street gang probably

Yes, anyone who cares about truth has to acknowledge the U.S’s virtually open southern border and the safety concerns that brings with it. It’s not about R or D, it’s more about chaos & anarchy.

[Maybe we do need a border czar or someone who would actually enforce our laws.]

was he a rich Mexican? those guys are something else lol

no… he was an employee in the Consulate

ahh, a “connected” Mexican, even worse lmao

yeah…not sure what he is talking about.

this notion that 100% of the 335 million people that live in the United States has, or needs, a college degree is a ridiculous statement.

Some do fine without a college degree…I have many in my family.

Yep. The trades can be very rewarding, for example.

connected Mexican…

No he is someone that has to deal with the Sh^% Show we created and on a daily basis

Probably doesn’t even get paid enough either lol

you guys have clearly never done business with Mexican officials lol…trust me, they have $$

yes…Mexico is one of the 15 richest countries in the world with THE biggest city in North America

Not sure why we make them out to be this poverty country.

you misunderstood what i said lol, i have a house there as well

Outside of the major cities, it’s pretty poor. I’d say stagnant too. Mexico City (the really rich parts of it) are in its own bubble. Same with a city like Monterrey. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful country with rich culture but very corrupt

stop, you guys don’t know enough lol

My parents are from Mexico, I’ve been there a couple of times. Although it’s been 10 years since the last time I’ve been there personally

May be corrupt and they may have a huge gap between rich and poor, but speaking of only the economic strength, as a nation…Mexico is one of the top 5% richest countries in the world…actually #14 in GDP. They are one of “The Haves” not one of " The Have-Nots"

Now, their policies for distributing that wealth among their citizens is another conversation.

Having studied abroad in Mexico City between my first and second years of law school, there are sections of Mexico City and its suburbs that are VERY wealthy and prosperous…and then there are other large sections where there is dire poverty…way worse than you’d see in all but a very few sections of the United States.

The air and water quality in that city are insanely bad. You can literally SEE the air, and drinking anything other than bottled water or bottled/canned drinks and eating any raw produce there can be VERY hazardous.

Also, take that list with a grain of salt. India is #5.

Having spent a lot of time in my previous career in South Asia (I was a South Asia Foreign Area Officer for more than four years), I can tell you that you will see shanty towns in every major city in India where the poverty is so extreme that it is hard to fathom.

I’ve heard people say “India is up and coming, we now have a middle class of over 300 million people,” or something to that effect.

My response is to say…that’s great…now…why don’t you tell me about the…ohhhh…SEVEN HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE you have that are quite literally living in the gutter.

Be careful with GDP stats, given that.
