Otis Birdsong singing Mercy Miller's Praises

Pretty weird to have TMZ covering the Coogs. Though I guess that is because of Mercy’s celebrity family. However always glad for people to be “talking about the Cougars”.

This story highlights, once again, how hard it is to have your number retired here… only 5 numbers retired.

I think #1 should be retired.

I’m also expecting big things from Mercy this year!

My all-time favorite UH Cougar, #10 Otis Birdsong. If OB says MM is ready for a breakout year, it will happen! I have never been more excited for a men’s basketball season to start. Go Coogs!

Well, we know mercy is not afraid to shoot it. If he can start making them consistently, we might have a breakout season from him.

I have attended UH home basketball games since 1970, shortly after Big E and Duck (Don Chaney) era.
No Cougar has gotten more applause in pregame introduction than Otis Birdsong.

Coach has NBA talent coming off the bench. His backups will get drafted or make NBA rosters.

I kept cheering for him to make threes last year and kept on missing. Needs to get into the LJ Cryer program and shoot threes until his arms fall off.

Yeah, I think Mercy needs to work on being Mercy. True, he needs to work on the shot but I don’t see him being a shooter like LJ, and that’s okay. He has other qualities such as strength, size, and the ability to get past players to the rack. If he can learn to finish better and develop a better shot from beyond the arc while picking it up on the defensive end, he could turn out to be a good one.

Look at Otis, trying to get some Face time on TMZ!

Go Otis!

Ran into Otis at the bar at the Peabody in Memphis. He didn’t know me from Adam and couldn’t have been more gracious.

One of my prized Coog possessions is the Otis Birdsong autographed picture I got at a game when he showed up and signed autographs for everyone that wanted one and he was actually happy to do it.

Wish I could’ve watched him play…

Smooth at everything he did on the court.

He’s one of the headliners in the All-Time Nice Guy HOF.

Pure, pure shooter with a flawless stroke. And he did it without a 3 point line

Radio personality Anita Martini said on the air that Birdsong wrote her and thanked her for coverage of him and UH athletics when Birdsong left UH.
As the years go by, people tend to exaggerate but Otis was the real deal. He was that good.
No. 2 pick in NBA draft.
