Our leaders are responsible for our low attendance

Boo! Boo! Boo! Boo! Boo! Boo!
Lame! Lame! Lame! Lame! Lame!

This is the way I view Houston fans. When its a big game, we come out of the woodwork and are there. Otherwise, cougar fans are busy working and will tune in just to keep up. Hopefully all the money coming in will change that. It’s just not a city for die hard fans, theres a huge turnover of people moving in and out of town.

Thanks for the shout! :stuck_out_tongue:

I do have to say, when I brought it up, they’re pretty much on board with getting students involved. They’re all for getting students involved but the disconnect exists. Just seemed like a bland response, but there are other ways the students are involved. Apparently through a working program by Delaware North & Hilton, get them to work games, etc.

As for yesterday
Oh my God, it was just bad. The entire thing felt boring. And to be pretty honest, I partied pretty hard the night before. I walked across campus and got into the stadium minutes before kickoff still in costume. But seriously, the game, the buzz, all about it felt boring. It felt like it’s just another game to get through. I’ve seen how UTSA does pregame, mid-game hype, everything, and it trumps UH. A C-USA school trumps this place for the activity.

Good thing you can hear the announcer from the Lofts before the game. But not the Spirit of Houston.

Yesterday sucked. Attendance was horrible, maybe 10k at most. The win was cool, UCF beat Cinci later on, so if Tulane loses before the end of the season, it’s a way for UH to get in the CCG.

But all I have to say is it felt very boring. It doesn’t seem like Athletics wants to put in effort, at least on the Football side, to see what makes the games themselves fun. Because it isn’t just the team.

This game felt like we were getting blown out by 70 and people just wanted it to be over. Nothing from the PA, nothing from other orgs. nothing. It was like ‘okay game started lets get it over with’.

No buzz. No hype for the homecoming game. I was a tad bit late to the homecoming pep rally on Monday, but that was just to announce court. A bunch of the football players were there in the crowd, and it didn’t seem like they were going to give any speeches or anything.

I don’t really care that it’s USF, but it sucked. Nobody really wanted to be there in the end.

Imagine had we lost to USF as well. That wouldn’t have been fun.

I do think next season will be big because it’s the B12. Pretty obvious on that part. We will have better crowds. But hopefully the EXPERIENCE and ATMOSPHERE of that game is better, because IT SEEMS LIKE THE TEAM IS WHAT THEY WANT TO ADVERTISE, WHICH IS JUST TELEVISION

Can’t believe our fans haven’t figured out CCG scenarios

But in all honesty, I do have other things to focus on before graduating. I’m looking at other programs right now to hop to for my research/academic goals.

The best way to get change is to have as many of y’all send in stuff to reps as you can. Write an open note, have everyone sign it.

To be stingy: I don’t get paid for any of this, but if some kind of “VP For Student Experience” or job opened up that I have an opportunity to take? I’d jump on it in a heartbeat since I can’t find a damn software engineering job. But it feels as if there’s no incentive anymore when stuff like this happens every week.

There’s a lot I’ve done over the past five years here. I’m so glad the current CV3 Officer team can do what they can and get the opportunity to carry over what I worked on. It took so long to get HEARD by athletics, so with enough work and making stuff happen, you can finally knock on the front door and even step in for giving your feedback and offering what you can do.

The ticket system finally got fixed, but there’s still an issue because of AccessUH. After it’s been brought up, it wasn’t fully fixed, but now the VP knows about it.

Y’all that donate lots, you can have your voice heard. Don’t threaten to pull anything ofc, but let them know what you’d like to see. Dedicate your ‘funds’ to TV buzz, billboards, whatever.

Because this week, from UH’s end, was downright pathetic. They only posted about the homecoming game. Not even the nationally ranked volleyball team, or golf team, or soccer team senior night.

I saw more excitement from this school and student body when we were 4-8 in 2019. Yesterday sucked. More and more students I’ve talked to are annoyed about attendance here. It sucks. The school doesn’t seem to care, and the fans can be better.

I asked about decentralizing Greek Life from being given nights just for them, since other orgs (CV3 included) can run a train on their attendance numbers. Was told that Dorm Nights exist. During a high profile volleyball match, 1000 students were awarded cookies for their dorm because four of them showed up. UH did NOTHING to let them know this was happening. GIVE ALL ORGS A WAY TO WIN

UH, if you want to push a bunch of emails out to cougar pride members and asking for money because we R12E’d over a school, go ahead. But make gameday worth coming out to. Your poopy ‘we dare’ looks like a midwestern 92% acceptance rate school commercial that doesn’t highlight the best things about this place.

And also, stop trying to ban womp womp until the second half. It’s like you’re waiting for students to clear out so we don’t sing it as loud. Absolutely pathetic control. Literally most of us are going to get married and have kids in the future, so yes, we do engage in sexual intercourse with mothers.

Go Coogs.

Thing is

I have been a diehard fan for years

I think before this season I maybe missed 3 home games in the past FIVE years

have made roadies to SMU , Tulane and Memphis
. Again just in the last five years.

Have been to atleast 12 bowl games.

So boo me and tell me I’m lame
.that’s fine
.but I’ve been to more games than most on this board despite living in San Antonio and fuel isn’t cheap
.but I’m lame
.cool.

Wrong on most counts, except the first one, which is probably the most important.

UH is an urban research university. If UH wants to change the perception of our school for legacy admits, it will need to improve its rankings. To do that, it must improve graduation rates among its students. That is really the key difference between us and say, Cincinnati, UCF, USF and Temple.

We now have the endowment, professional schools, job placement numbers, and SAT/ACT scores. But our six year graduation rate is still too low.

There is one way we could change this: get rid of the part-time program. Mandate a minimum of 30 credit hours a year. It can be split between Fall, Spring and Summer, but must be at least 30 hours. Anyone that wants part time can go to UH-D, Katy or Sugarland. That alone would probably increase the six year grad rate.

The other change would be to offer more merit aid. Use money to get students to come. Like I said, my son got scholarship offers to many OOS public universities. UH - Nada.

Why in God’s name would he choose to go to UH for more money when it is lower ranked than the others?

I don’t like anybody or anyone that much.

Walking out of the game yesterday, I realized the experience at TDECU isn’t terribly different anymore than the one at Rice Stadium.

I don’t think you’re lame at all. I know you’re a great fan just like I am. I was talking about the semi cougar fans that don’t buy season tickets every year.

How were they trying to ban womp womp?

I’ve had season tickets for over 40 years. IMHO the only way we pack the stadium is to be a national contender pretty often. Maybe winning the B12 would work, but maybe not. After we joined the SWC and won the conference (or shared) title three out of the first four years seems like we were drawing around 30K. At some point some AD wanted a PSL instituted, that was incredibly stupid. Think that was Cedric Dempsey.
I have to believe that a large percentage of fans packing the big boys stadium are NOT graduates. The only way to get those fans is to compete nationally. I doubt that will happen in football in my lifetime.

I say kudos to any Coog willing to drive from San Antonio to support when we can’t get nearby alums or students to attend games.
Not sure I would drive from SA to watch our undisciplined team.
Alright, I probably would lol

All I can say is that we better start fielding championship teams or start paying folks to attend our games.
I will say it again, I can understand our talent level being down and injuries but it is inexcusable how undisciplined this team is.
Penalties happen, but the unsportsmanlike stuff is on the coaching staff and embarrassing.

Your response is WHY I opened this thread.
The takeout can be summed up in one word.
DISCONNECT
This is what I have pointed out over the years.
It comes back to basics.
No communication within the university?
Get communications majors to make DAMN sure this happens.
AGAIN communication is about reaching your audience. What strakerak is pointing out has been going since our SWC days probably before. That is inexcusable and what makes anybody think it will be different in the BIG12?
You betcha our leaders are responsible for this. This is part of their job. I love Mrs. Khator and Fertitta but it is overdue that they make this issue a priority. You betcha they can. What do they have to lose?
Let me ask that one again. They/we have everything to gain.

There is absolutely nothing positive that can ever result from some UH students wanting to drink too much &/or use despicable foul mouthed (alternate) language during the womp womp ditty! Anyone that doesn’t understand that probably shouldn’t even attend college.

I didn’t read all the messages before this, so if it was said already I don’t know.

What I believe is the best way to fill the stadium long term is we need to convert the students that go to the games into season ticket holders after graduation. Anything else may just be a short term fix.

My point is for any UH specific vulgar songs is that random stuff in the student section will make the child/dumb side of the student to come here.

The college experience includes being an idiot or doing something that might disappoint the parents haha. Trust me on this. Womp Womp and student antics alone flipped a few Aggy wannabes to UH desired.

Who will it look bad to? People in the bible belt who probably hope players get injured?

They haven’t been playing it until the second half. They’re trying to use the hype video to be all about them cougars. But the band doesn’t play it until the 3rd quarter.

And with that, nobody else really knows or sings it

It feels deflated here.

Idk some joke about SEC school fans that are too dedicated to their team and hope for many downfalls

We’ve had a few here that enjoyed when our players got injured after a lack of performance. Not cool. Not cool at all

I thought something was off! i didn’t realize it completely until now
