Passing the Protect College Sports Act

It passed the Senate and easily overcame the 60 vote threshold.

But will it pass the House?

Odds seem long. A lot of opposition. I can’t really get into who the opposition is, because it might get the thread deleted.

Funny that AI gets to police itself but college sports needs the government to step in

All “interstate commerce” is subject to Congressional regulation, according to Article I of the Constitution.

As I see it, college sports (especially major college sports), and AI are both interstate commerce, and as such, subject to Congressional regulation.

How far that regulation should extend in either case if where the disagreements arise.

Most Congressmen are beholden to the sports fans of their state’s biggest university. It’s why my hope of congressional intervention is doomed to failure.

Well, it goes beyond just that.

A lot of labor groups, and certain Congressional caucuses have also expressed opposition.

Again, I don’t want to go too deep into it because we know the thread will get locked if I do, but do a Google or AI search, and you’ll see what I mean.

going to get passed but i hope it fails, seems it will limit those outside the p4 and may forever separate them. i realize the coogs are in the p4, but i’m down with allowing everyone a chance in the new pay to play system. oregon state could get a billionaire donor and then be back in the game and/or to keep it as is until the wild west we have today blows everything up, then maybe it gets back to collegiate sports.

All the more reason to want it to get passed.

As it stands now, our attendance issues make us a prime candidate to be left out if the P4 ever contracts.

This act would prevent that and lock us in permanently.

But with opposition from three key groups that I can’t openly mention, passing it won’t be easy.
