Is he allowed to tackle a linebacker? That’s what you think the NFL is looking for?
Paul is not good. He’s capable of becoming good due to his genetics, but he is not a good OT now. I think our biggest issue on the OL might be our OL coach.
His hands are inside and he just finished his block , not exactly considered tackling. Paul might be rough around the edges but he has a ton of nastiness that an O-Lineman needs
Patrick has all the tools to play on Sunday. Give him some time. You can’t expect an N.F.L. O.L. just a few months in his NCAA career. He has that much potential.
Right now Paul is a fair OT who has potential to be a great OT. He still misses assignments or makes the wrong decision that ends up getting the QB or the play blown up. Basically, he is a raw talent with a great upside. But, you don’t get a shortcut to experience. I imagine with each game he will do better and better. Once he and his teammates get used to playing together, I think he will be a reliable OT that will give our QB and run game great protection. By his junior year he has potential to be an All-American.

I’ve noticed that he does struggle in pass protection and assignments. I do think he’s athletic enough to be all-around elite. Mostly because he can engulf defenders and drive them back on blocking assignments. Like a lot of our young linemen, 90% of the problem seems to be between the ears at the moment. Fingers crossed, a full season with coach Jones will get them right!
It’s just not fair to expect a kid with limited experience to play like a seasoned veteran. I am sure our coaches are well aware of his limitations due to inexperience, but you have to play to get the necessary game experience.
