Brian Johnson who is the QB coach at MSU is rumored to be our next OC. He served as OC at Utah from 2012-2013 with a 10-14 record…
There is very little data on him as a coach as he has only been int he profession for 6 years. I am not sure how comfortable I am with this hire if it turns out to be true. CoachV thinks its a good hire which I trust his judgment. There have been 3 OC hired at MSU since he arrived.
Their (Mississippi State) play calling is suspect; blame the offensive coordinators not the QB coach. He (B.Johnson) is young, has ties to the Texas, Utah and Mississippi, former college athlete. He will be driven and can relate to players. Much upside if you ask me.
I think he’d be a good choice. He was OC at Utah when he was in his mid-20s. Utah numbers don’t look good that season, but they lost their QB to injury early and started a true freshman the rest of the year. He’s been working with Dan Mullen now for three years, and he’s from Baytown and has recruited some of our commitments and other area prospects. Having said that, Beck would be the heavy favorite, I’d think, if he is really is a candidate.
I don’t know about this hire if true…Why…what in his resume as an OC makes him stand out to take over a juggernaut offense in Houston…
Dak Prescott is the reason why Miss state had those winnng season and his showing it in Dallas.
We walked this beaten path before and it didn’t work last time …
Didn’t their true freshman QB lead the SEC in total yards this year as well? Like others, I don’t know how this qualifies him to be an OC, but I like what I see in him as a QB coach. I assume that will be the other part of his title (OC/QB coach).
Also, I still haven’t seen this news confirmed anywhere. What am I missing?
He was named OC at Utah, then was demoted to co-OC after his first year, demoted again to QB coach after his second year, then made a horizontal move to Mississippi State after his third year.
I honestly don’t get the hype. Dak Prescott would make any coach look good.
Then again, based on our HC’s history, maybe it makes sense that we hire an OC with a shaky track record.
