Starter Seth Romero struck out 12 Hornets en route to his third win of the year. The southpaw allowed just one run on four hits and two walks in 6.0 innings of work. His 12 strikeouts ties a season-high and Friday’s win became the fifth straight start with at least 10 strikeouts for the West Columbia, Texas native.
Freshman Fred Villarreal took over for Romero to start the seventh inning and went a career-long 3.0 innings, earning his first career save for the Cougars. The righty allowed one run on four hits with one strikeout.
