Sad, but speaks volumns.
And I do.
My Dad worked for Esso Eastern (Exxon) and in 1971 they (and we) moved from Rockefeller Center in Manhattan to Woodlake Square on the NE corner of Gessner & Westheimer.
The land on the SW corner of that intersection, all the way out to Hwy. 6, was owned by Bob Smith and was barbed-wire fenced with cattle grazing on it. From Rockefeller Center to cows grazing in the field — talk about culture shock!
Wilcrest south of Westheimer to Alief was a shell road and IIRC Houston Shell & Concrete had a plant about a mile from Westheimer. In the winter cement trucks made Wilcrest impassable — giant ruts — if you wanted to go to Alief from the Memorial area, you went out SW Fwy and then W on Bellaire. I believe the SW Fwy stopped at Bellaire until about then.
Here’s the Galleria in '72
that reminds me of the lucky beaver steak burgers in lake tahoe, highly recommended; largest burger i have ever had.
