Oh Berry Tramel, how sad it must be to have little to write about.
CMA 16th…behind Jay Norvell? Spurned by Charlie Strong? He wasn’t spurned by Charlie, he was forced to leave due to the tennis coach scandal and because Charlie didn’t want to retain him from Brown’s staff.
This list should be titled “who has the most name recognition.”
I’m struggling to identify anything wrong with what he wrote.
Applewhite got whacked from two blue-blood P5 programs before he got here. That’s just true. Whether he got the shaft either time is up for conjecture.
And Berry Tramel sure as hell isn’t the only person who thinks that we settled on Applewhite after scaring everyone else away with insane buyout demands. Some folks - me included - believe that Renu and Tilman wanted Applewhite all along, and that the buyout was pushed as a way of ensuring that Applewhite is who we ended up with.
Maybe, but looking at that list, I’m not sure anyone that we could have gotten would have been better than Applewhite nor could we afford another coach with one foot out the door halfway through his 1st season as the OU OC almost certainly would have been.
But, we’ll see. As @itcoog said, they haven’t even played a snap yet.
