I checked with AI and the new metric will not prevent our conference champion from getting a playoff spot. It only affects multiple bids for getting a 2nd , 3rd or 4th team. With 12 teams as of now we only get our champion in it. If they go to 24 teams in the cfp then yes, we get 1 in probably 3 but it would affect multiple bids.
As of now with 12 teams , it doesn’t affect the big 12 but it will affect the big10 bc they don’t require their members to play a p4 non conference game.
It’s also good that the big 10 and sec are fighting. The big forced the sec into 9 conference games then the sec forced the big 10 into the strength of schedule issue.
If strength of schedule is a thing then the sec and big10 will want to schedule big12 or Acc teams
