San Antonio Food & Drink Recommendations

I like trying out restaurants that have made TV shows…

For the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight a few years back we stayed near this place, and enjoyed some great breakfast tacos…

Little Taco Factory

The restaurant “Josephine Street” near the Pearl is one of my all time favorites in San Antonio. Great food and service. While there grab some drinks at the various spots around the Pearl. It’s a much better time than the river walk.

I hear Dee’s is a huge hit in San Antonio.

I always secretly tell the waiter that someone in our group is having a birthday. Always fun

If you are taking kids and are staying off the Riverwalk I recommend the Magic Time Machine.

Another spot is The Cove

Outdoor playground surrounded by tables. Decent to good food. Good beer list/bar.

Love Mi Tierra, I bet it is going to be crazy busy.

La Fonda on Main is great, lovely patio.

I like Casa Rio only because it is cheap and you cannot beat the scenery. As a civil engineer, I think the Riverwalk is such a cool urban revitilization project.

There are great mom and pop spots all over San Antonio. Tink a Tako has some amazing breakfast tacos

Tripas y Lengua

Pinche gringos may not like them but I do

I feel like this is a derogatory term lol

If you are staying near the Riverwalk try the places is the Pearl. You can take a river taxi, or take a nice stroll along the River. In the Pearl try Southerly in the Hotel Emma. The Culinary Arts Institute has a place with a menu that changes frequently. Cured is in the 110 year old Pearl Administrative office building. They cure their own meats on site, and the owner / chef is a cancer survivor who donates a percentage to cancer research for each order. For something not so fancy, just under the freeway at the Pearl, you will find Sam’s Burger joint. They feature live music. Just south of the Hilton Palacio Del Rio is Deans in the Kimpton Santo hotel, with a nice rooftop bar. Also in that same area is The Battalion set in an old fire station. The Thompson Hotel, also on the river halfway between downtown and The Pearl has a great restaurant and a rooftop bar up on about the 20th floor. It has a great view of downtown and in the afternoon is in the shade.

If you are looking for fast food, Taco Palenque. They have one location in Houston, and is owned by the same company that has El Pollo Loco.

Thank you for the suggestions.

My reserve unit is in San Antonio, my sister went to school at the CIA and all my family lives in San Antonio. So I’m familiar with those spots!

Mi Tierra, always a good choice.

DeWese’s Tip Top Cafe is also solid.
