Scholarship and Ability to Play

Anyone watching the Texans game yesterday saw why it’s tough to ask Ed to risk millions of dollars. Alex Smith had his ankle broken and he’ll be out for awhile. If that happens to Ed, he possibly goes from high 1st round pick to lower round draft pick depending on the severity of the injury.

On the other hand, he probably shouldn’t be running around trying to make leaping catches prior to games either if he doesn’t want to risk injury. Kids, man…got three of them and have seen it all.

I think you guys are way off assuming his draft stock is getting hurt because of sitting. You can ignore all draft projections right now because the draft “experts” are just throwing their own ideas against the wall. Until they start getting more feedback from NFL teams, they are just changing rankings to get people to talk about it. It will all come down to the combine and what numbers Ed has.

The only way for his draft stock to really get hurt would be for him to look bad playing in a few games or getting another injury.

Getting hurt draft wise is a subjective concept. When you’re talking about tens of millions of dollars changing hands you’re scrutinized by everything you do. And it gets incrementally more costly the closer you get.

Every team wants Ed. I think he goes in the top two and gets traded for a boatload of draft picks.

Scholarships are awarded by semester. If a player decides to stop playing, he can continue his education through the end of the semester. The following semester is on his dime.

In Div 3, money given is academic in nature so if a guy quits he can continue with his education.
