Wrong. Little league is for neighborhood kids. Even ones that don’t play year round. If you make it like travel ball those kids won’t want to play. Which would be a shame and not grow the sport.

Yeah, LL definitely has a place, just like the YMCA leagues. That’s as competitive as some kids ever want to be in baseball, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This family and any others like it are complete morons.
Obviously the mom and dad are clueless.
About 6% of all HS athletes play in college at ANY level….That includes JUCO and NAIA.
Slightly more than 1% play D-1.
This dad is gonna be disappointed when the kid doesn’t even make his HS team.

My son played travel ball on one of the highest rated teams in the country, with players from all around the country. We traveled around going to each coast every weekend to play in the elite tournaments. He ended up with a D1 scholarship, but if I could do it again, I would have done it differently. There are a number of elite tournaments that are held in Dallas and Houston have every Summer that bring in all the big coaches/recruiters. I should have just had him play in those for the most part, and saved a ton of money… There aer a couple of tournaments where he probably needed to play in, one was in Hoover and the other one was in Phoenix, but the other ones were complete money grabs. Save your money and do your research.

Same with softball, and my kid ended up with a 2/3 ride at UH. Played with a travel ‘gold’ team out of Spring-Klein. We traveled enough, Colorado, New Jersey, Oklahoma for Nationals but everything else was played in Texas. We stayed away from the money grabs but this was 20 years ago, it can still be done.

I see it all the time. They even do signing day stuff.
Outside of Hoover there is no reason to go out of state……it’s fun for the boys but the realization is 80-90% of the ones good enough to play D-1 ball choose to play in Texas.

We did a few out of state but mainly stayed in Texas. It worked well enough that he was offered and signed w/D-1 program but he chose to go the JUCO route. If you can play, they’ll find you. Travel/Select/Tourney/Showcase or whatever they call it now is really out of control…went to tourney few months back and some of these teams/coaches…horrid…ripping people off…terrible fundamentals and baseball IQ…coaches telling some of these parents…“your kid has D1/Pro potential” when there’s no chance he can play at that level…just lying and stealing $$$ from parents…unathletic kids and baseball don’t mix at the next level
