Semi OT: FBS coaches unanimously vote for redshirt rule of 9 games + playoffs

They’ve already approved that under the current rules. A conference championship team that makes it to the national championship game can have a player that plays in 9 games and still redshirt.

I think that’s a great idea.

I have said this before… Why limit eligibility at all?

Have a min number of credits and play until you graduate.

Back in the day, after Earl Campbell was drafted by the Oilers, all the NFL coaches except Bum voted to give Earl another year of college eligibility.

The rationale for the 9 game proposal was to extend the eligibility window so players wouldn’t shut it down after 4 games to preserve their redshirt year. Coaches would be able to play players most of the year without the player burning a redshirt year. Is there any surprise this was thought up by the coaches? The NCAA decision on this is TBD.

Then there is the proposed “5-for-5” rule, which gives an athlete 5 seasons to compete in 5 years, essentially eliminating redshirting. That decision is also TBD.

9 game redshirts, Chambliss suing the NCAA for another year of playing (and more importantly access to the $ another year of playing gives him). Won’t be long until there is no limit on how long you can play college football as well ex NFL players being allowed back. There are too many players that wouldn’t make it in the NFL (or used to be in NFL and aren’t good enough anymore) but have market value in college. You think these people aren’t going to throw a huge fit instead of leaving millions of $ on the table? With little to no regulation it will happen by the end of this decade. You can see this coming a mile a way.

Sure, but I think it would be limited to an undergraduate degree… but really why would that need to be the case either?

I think we need to add an age limit too.
No collegiate athletes over 24 years old.

Ok, and do basketball too

Like WTF is the point. Just give everyone 5 years of eligibility and call it a day. This is becoming worse than traveling in the NBA
