Just imagine how it could be if either private high schools or public high schools in wealthy neighborhoods started energizing their well-to-do parents and boosters to start recruiting and “buying” top athletes for their sports teams via NIL, and giving them enough money to where their parents can move to their zone/district (in the case of a public school).
Doesn’t this already happen though?
Isn’t this why South Dallas 6a district 11 is the SEC of Texas high school football ?
19-6A (Katy ISD) is the SEC of Texas HS football.
GO JORDAN WARRIORS!!! BEAT KATY!!!

North Carolina got hit hard by Hurricane Helene. I hope most NILs at this point are tied to recovery efforts, build-back, or public service announcements, which high school athletes can be a part of. Help the community and put some money in the athletes’ pocket.
So stupid
Are there that many people willing to give up their generational wealth that easily so their high school can win???
You realize you’re talking about Texas football? Where some of the high school stadiums are better that some college stadiums. You don’t think some wealthy alumni wouldn’t do that?
I mean is this really that much different than Travel Ball?
The Banditios wht/blk have a direct pipeline into the MLB
High schools don’t (or shouldn’t) recruit kids to play football, they provide an opportunity for kids to play football and other sports. This whole thing is getting ridiculous. And don’t tell me the high schools and their coaches are getting rich off the backs of the players, it isn’t true.
yes, those stadiums are paid with tax payer money.
Maybe the wealthiest schools can afford it but the majority of the public schools, in Texas, are not attended by the wealthiest families that just have money top throw at 15-18 year olds.
In fact, this study just came out highlighting the amount of Americans that can’t even pay off their credit cards.
People can do whatever they want with their money but they are also 100% responsible for their dumb business decisions and their own ramifications related to those decisions.
High schools have been recruiting players to play for their teams for decades.
Saw a national report on the 5 most costly HS stadiums in the country. Texans stand up! We have 3 out of the 5, lowest cost i remember was 68 M and up from there. Now I’m sure that since we’re Texas, we’ve got to be #1 so a 100-150mm HS stadium could happen. Read your school bond proposals very carefully!
My grandson plays at Katy on the 9th grade team. He said if that was going on, someone would have know about it because there are too many secrets kept among players. Maybe he’s wrong, maybe he’s right; but to date, have you seen any proof of that happening in Katy.
I do know my son-in-law moved to be within Katy HS boundary. But I guarantee he received nothing to do so since my grandson wasn’t a starter on the junior high team he played for. Many kids, and their parents, want to play for Katy because of their record and I’m sure that happens at other perennial winners.
Until I am given verifiable proof, I will give the high schools benefit of the doubt. But, especially in small towns where a big company has the means to hire a family member, I can see a parent get a job to move there. But I really can’t say for certain.
It’s my understanding that his was widely known about the Odessa Permian football team years back.
Well Texas passed a law a few years back that stopped allowing the ISDs to blanket a bond proposal. Now they break them up into a facilities bond (new schools, fixing old schools), technology bond (new computers, etc.), safety bonds (securing schools, new doors, cameras) and non academic facilities (stadiums, fine arts centers, admin buildings, etc.). In the district I work in the voters passed the first three and voted down a new stadium. While Cy fair got theirs passed right before the law and were able to build a natatorium, an opera/fine arts building, new admin building and new schools, technology and safety since it was one bond. Going to be hard to convince the voters a new stadium is needed when it is not connected to the others.
You must live in the same area as I, we voted down a new stadium also. Somehow the kids survived playing in an older stadium that had been renovated. But i’m sure in the future there will be some slick school board or politician that will figure out a way to skirt the state requirements you mentioned–yeah, all new stadiums need a supercomputer, an art gallery (with all football pics and paintings of course), admin bldgs with super lounges, 10k sq. ft. restrooms, etc.etc.
Trust me they move to play in certain area s if use addresses - I had a parent straight up tell me he rented an apartment to play for a certain school and he was proud of it
For proof why are only the same few schools always winning?
Why?
I am confused why these HS kids should be required to do that in order to earn income. Are you required to perform charitable tasks to get paid at your place of employment?
Just an idea to benefit the Hurricane recovery and for those athletes who want to contribute to the community. Nothing mandatory.
It is not uncommon for companies to allow paid time for social service.
