They just hired the HC from FCS Davidson who runs the Triple Option out of the Pistol formation.

This is honestly what Rice needed to do a long time ago.

Well i dont really know want to say. Good for them? I think our defense will be fine.

Good scheme for teams that can’t compete with the overall talent of P4 and upper level G5 teams.

In the age of NIL you are forced to play Moneyball so you have to come up with schemes that can be effective with players that don’t require NIL money,

Beat the service academies at their own game ?
What could go wrong…

More on this.

Just doing what service academies have been doing a long time. Eat up clock and protect a bad defense. American schools are used to playing Navy so no big deal for them. OR us next year.

did it with Hatfield before it wore thin - led to the birth of Todd Graham lol

just a repeat of itself -

Hatfield had a lot of experience with it and had won at Air Force, Clemson and Arkansas…and it was a big deal when Rice got him, but they were still in SWC in those days. Fred Goldsmith had already turned Rice into a winner in 1992 and 1993 and RB Cobb had won that national running back award…but that was then and this is now…Rice is trying to remain relevant in the American. the Davidson guy will have a tough go, i think…at least at first.

Abell will have a tough row to hoe but Rice will be OK. If he wants to run a triple option that’s terrific. That offense is hard to prepare for and you spend a lot of practice time to get ready for it. As long as we beat the snot out of them EVERY SINGLE year I wish them success.

They have any good receivers that will be disgruntled and looking for a school nearby to play for?

I love the triple option. One of the most exciting offenses…imo

Love it.

We better beat them next season. We have dominated the series. We can’t let them hold onto the bucket.

Gonna be a hard sale in Texas - you gotta for academically qualified guys who want to play in that offense which is boom or bust

They dont have it, we do… We beat them 38-6. Next year’s game is last with Rice that we have scheduled, and i have heard we have no interest to renew. So we need to beat them as bad as possible and keep that bucket forever.

I know that. I’m talking about next season. We have to win or they will hold onto the bucket.

We could have had more points running the veer this year.
