Should the three points line be eliminated?

Interesting thought.

The only thing that’s fixing the NBA is to start punishing the ever loving crap out of the flopping. I mean, make flopping the equivalent of targeting in football. Give coaches the ability to challenge on a flop. If replay determines there was a flop, the flopper is ejected and if it happens in the second half, he has to sit out the first half of the next game as well. That would stop the insanity immediately. The current product is completely unwatchable.

The NBA regular season is a meaningless money grab…… no real basketball is played until the playoffs. Eventually all teams will make the playoffs.

100% I hate it!

The only thing that can fix the NBA is for it to go bankrupt.

Of course Steve Kerr would say that after winning 4 chips with the greatest 3 point shooter in the history of the game + Splash Brothers + Draymond (stretch 4/point forward)

Oh yeah… + KD one year… lol

I went to 1 NBA game during Hakeem’s rookie season, left in the third period, and haven’t been back since. Can’t remember the last time I watched a whole game, but I know it was in the 1980’s.

Watching the cavs last night - 9 of 25 from three in the 1st half :man_facepalming:

NBA has alway been a me sport but it’s worse now as they’ve let players have way more influence and oversight - the bend the rules way more and the 12 minute quarters just draws the game out as they shoot and walk the entire time

The early 2000s guys seem to be very jealous of the younger guys and the younger guys constantly fight back with them on their podcasts which is another story

Go the other direction completely… put in a 4 pt shot.

Reduce the season to 50 games and cut ALL contracts by the same percentage.

Make the midcourt stripe the three-point line.

Make the court longer, maybe 20’ and wider maybe 10’.

Bring back the fast break

Watching a bunch of 3s get jacked and bricked sucks from an entertainment stand point but you don’t want to overly penalize good 3 point shooting teams because it is a big part of how they win. There needs to be some balance struck. Really the key in all this is to get the bad or off night shooting 3 point shooting players and teams away from jacking and bricking 3s and the obscene amount of 3PAs/game down to something more palatable from an entertainment standpoint.

I’ve been saying something like this for a while needs to happen in the NBA:

  • no need to eliminate the corner 3 - it will clog up spacing too much in the NBA game where you have tall and long athletes all over the court
  • no need to extend the 3 at the top of the key further - it is already pretty far out especially relative to the corner 3 and the college game…plus further shots will lead to more bricks which is bad and boring to watch. I’d actually argue you might want to move it up a foot because 3PAs will be capped as I discuss below
  • Each team automatically gets 25 3PAs allowed per game
  • If they make 10 of them (40%) then they get 10 more 3PAs
  • After 25 3PA (or 35 3PA if you get the bonus 10) then every shot on the court counts for 2 points even if shooting behind the 3 point line
  • last 2 minutes of the game and OT there is no restriction on 3PA and all 3PAs count for 3.
  • You would literally just have to add a tracker on the bottom of the tv screen below the scores that shows the words 6/18 3PA in green (go) if they can still score 3s or 7/25 3PA in red (no) if they are maxed out or can no longer score 3 point shots. Last 2 minutes of the game these figures go away.

The G league or whatever it is called now should have been testing something like this years back and getting player/coach and fan feedback at the games about the viewing experience and difficulty to implement/strategy intricices, whether 25 is the right number or 20 or 30, etc…, but Adam Silver is a complete buffoon so I’m not surprised he just keeps shrugging this off. Baseball and football have no problems making changes to the game to improve the viewing experience but Silver seems dead set on making the NBA product worse and worse to watch as time goes on.

And before anyone says you can’t restrict the game by limiting 3s, I call BS. 3 point line didn’t even exist for decades. The NBA is a sport but also an entertainment product ESPECIALLY the part that make highlight reels - highlight dunks and 27’ 3 point bombs with music blaring in the background during the game - it is already the closest major sport that merges sport and entertainment we have. Silver IMPROVE the product as entertainment you fool!

Or just let them play 80s style defense…

The other change I’d make is get rid of hand checking fouls. That and capping 3PAs would make the game infinitely more watchable and there would be more variation between the teams

I left because I couldn’t see through the tears I was bored to.

Why not make a shot from beyond mid-court worth 5 points?

because it would be made like 10% of the time. Sound fun to watch to you?
