This crap is getting ridiculous. I have never heard someone say that football games are too long. This seems like a rule change just to make one.

God forbid take away a few commercials.
Rule meetings on 420, they must of killed a few bags of doritos in making these rules
This one has legs " Carry over penalties on the final play of the first and third quarters to the following frame, instead of immediately playing untimed downs". But it kind of conflicts end of half 0:00
College football games are too long. Part of that is this addressed by this rule change. The other part (commercials) will never be addressed because the economics of college sports is dependent on them.
The biggest soccer leagues do fine wiithout commercials every 7 minutes…
Yeah - Just about every industrialized nation thinks it’s weird that the US stops TV shows and sports for commercial breaks. The US public is so conditioned to it.
That’s the problem.
Probably just the opposite, they can squeeze in a couple more commercial breaks with the time saved. Of course, the commercials are paying all those millions the conferences get. But, if the clock doesn’t stop, how would they fit them in? Change of possession only?
Probably in a very small minority, but I wish the games lasted longer. I look forward to college football for almost 9 months, and we are only guaranteed 12 games. 5 to 6 hours of tailgating followed by 3-1/2 hours of Cougar Football is a great day to me.
Just one thing, but this absurd targeting rule has slowed games down to a crawl every single time it is called. My objection is two part: this call is arbitrary. Secondly it takes forever for officials to “review the tape”.
Me too. I don’t understand why everyone is in such a big dang hurry. I find myself not enjoying Astros games anymore because it’s too fast. This isn’t Europe. I don’t give a crap how they run soccer over there. That shouldn’t have anything to do with American sports.
Football is the only sport where college games last longer than professional games. These 4 hour games are just too long.
Then don’t go. Don’t watch. Or watch some and then turn it off. Don’t ruin it for the others.
Not for me. I wish the quarters were 30 minutes of playing time.
True… Sports with dozens/hundreds of games need to speed up…
Football is fine like it is.
20 minute half for each band is a very long time, especially when the other team doesn’t even bring a band
I’m not in a rush for it to be over.
I wish they would do like the NFL and stop the clock for incompletions but start the clock once the ball was set until the last 4 mins. They would speed it up a lot
If you think Astros games go too fast, go to one of Houston’s softball parks and watch a game or two.
Also, TV (the demanding little devils) only allow for 3 1/2 hours per game (I believe). Games need to be fit into THEIR time, not ours. Our money is miniscule compared to theirs, hence we have September day games and November/December night games
