The superback! Loved watching Spoon highlights on the news. 8 yards a carry is a ridiculous number.
A great Coog! … and Johnny Hebert is coming …
Go Coogs!
Spoon vs SMU… I always laugh when SMU fans say UH should have ran the ball more in 1989.
We only had 2 RBs on the roster, and Anders played WR most of the game due to injuries, having the 2nd most receptions (5th most yards).
So Spoon ran the ball. Admittedly he only had 15 carries which seems low, but he had 207 yards rushing. That’s more yards per carry than UH had yards per pass attempt.
He also had 3 rushing TDs. So on average every 5th carry was a TD.
Imagine if he had 25 carries which might be a normal load for RBs then. If he maintained those averages, he’d have 345 yards rushing and 5 TDs.
BTW: Anders did carry the ball 6 times for a pitiful 9 yards per carry
Spoon was fun to watch!
