St. John's Series

Well that 4th innning was tough with all of those soft hits and bunts.

11-5 in the middle of the 8th

Oh well, we won the series.

11 to 6 9th. We had bases loaded in 8th.

Seems like half of their 17 or 18 hits were infield hits or bunts. I don’t think I’m exaggerating.

That’s baseball. I am ok with a 6-1 record for now.

This is looking like a borderline tournament team to me.

Obviously, we have barely left the gate but I’ve seen a lot of baseball over the years….

This team has some talent.

It’s not a CWS team……not a Supers team….but very well could be an at-large team.

And that would be a start……if it is 64 or bust for coach
then he has a shot.

Glad you’re ok with it. I mean why should University of Houston for crying out loud expect anything less than that considering the girls softball teams we’ve played.

Let’s see if some how we can make a decent showing at Minute Maid where we’ve typicslly nosedived into one embarrassing appearance after another. Withholding judgment until then.

We could play .500 baseball from here on out. I am hoping we will be much better this year.

Cannot express enough appreciation for the Rod Serling reference. I’m dazzled and humbled.

Thanks Funk. It just somehow seemed to pop to mind watching a rundown for the 4th out of inning.

I’m sorry, but with Todd’s performance over the last 4 years, I am not even in a hoping mood.

Let’s just date to dream that this year he is “Turnaround Todd.”

As I was told before the year started, the pitching staff may be a good surprise and be above the hitting. And the hitting has been pretty good up to this point. We will obviously know more as the NC season starts to play out and we get to the Big 12. We may surprise some people in the Big 22 but I still don’t think we make the tournament.

Jones has been a really nice surprise and has some nice tools.

I knew Ace was going to show well….I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I am surprised Russell and Bennett have not played at all ( especially Bennett).

Do you have any injury news on either of them?

French has been better than I thought and so far Jimenez’s bat has played up….wasn’t sure if it would live up to his JUCO numbers….i guess that is playing into Bennett not playing ( if not hurt).

What happened to this Schmidt picture a German I think right??

I am told there is nothing wrong with Bennett or Russell. They are just stuck behind some players who have experience. Todd does not usually like to play young players, which says a lot about how well Reese is playing. It seems as though in the last few years that if you are a transfer of any kind, you are going to get a chance to play, especially over a FR!

Just play the best damn players lol

Yeah, that’s been shown to be a pretty crappy formula.

I have no inside information on this but I know that when you get a player that is top 300 in the NATION you play that kid.( even if he has to stumble a bit)
If Bennett continues to sit and get no PT IMO he is gone….
Which begs the question, why even recruit a kid that highly ranked if you aren’t going to give him a shot.

Here, let me answer my own question….if Strake is correct in that it’s NCAA or bust for TW then he is going to do exactly what you suggested baller and that is play the older guys.
This next bit has nothing to do with catching and I won’t mention names but there is an infielder that continues to be run out there that can’t hit….and yet TW keeps running him out there and not letting others ( some highly rated) even get a chance.

Okay, I’m done.

I completely agree with you about bringing in players and having no interest in playing them at all. If you are going to play by those rules, why do you even recruit HS players? Just recruit out of the portal and JC kids. And if you are a FR, who gets no time, it is in your best interest to move along. If they tell you they want you to stay at the end of the year it is purely selfish reasons.

There are a few players who will be playing that can’t hit. The problem is that even though they are not producing, I promise you the kid that is behind them in Kivett’s mind, is not the player you are wanting to play!

Have you ever personally heard or seen a top 300 NATIONAL player ( freshman) come into a program and not even get an AB ? Even in a midweek against a team like PV A&M?!

I guess maybe at a perennial powerhouse where the kid has agreed to redshirt and wait maybe?

But at a school like UH that has not made the tournament since 2018?

It’s just nuts to me……I’m sure the kid and his parents have already “discussed “ his next year.
