Student campus visits

Some of you might recall I posted about taking my daughter to UH, UT, ATM, and Rice. I mentioned UH and Rice looking a little disheveled.

Here’s the story I just heard from my aunt in Las Colinas. Her granddaughter (my god daughter) grew up in Plano. Her dad was from New Orleans and was a super hard core LSU fan. She grew up big purple and gold. Joe Burrow autographed helmet, LSU posters on the wall, Tiger jersey on jersey day. Family pictures in LSU attire.

Last year she started her college career at North Texas studying to be a teacher. I asked my aunt why not LSU. She told me it was her intention to transfer there but wanted to be home her first year. Well she did her visit to LSU with her dad. I asked her in text how it went.

Here are some snippets:

“Icky…grass growing between sidewalks…litter…standing water…and a general lack of maintenance.” She also said some buildings had black mold growing up the side that looked like it hadn’t been sprayed in a year.

When I heard this I called her and we talked. I asked her what it did to her image of LSU. She said, “I love the school I’m at. Daddy gets mad if I say anything else.” I asked if I could buy the Burrow helmet for $20 and she said, “I won’t sell it for that but if you can find a signed Bengals one I’ll trade you.”

I’ve never been to LSU but Damn!

LSU has been in a state of disrepair for decades now. The buildings there are very literally falling apart. I’d go into why, but that’s a bannable offense. But we’ll just say the call is coming from inside the house.

Google
“lsu moldy libraries”

aka “Bowels of Hell”

My step kids are there now.
Fine for basically free with LA Tops program.
Many buildings look untouched from 15 years + ago when I was there often.

I was surprised the basketball Arena looked so beat up.
(this was a few years ago) Practice facilities are nice.

Damn, what are they doing with all that SEC money?

And all the hush-hush $$$ from the Catholic church? #iykyk :eyes:

In fairness I’ve commented on some issues with UH and Rice. What I don’t understand is why these schools don’t have sweepers…even in off season. These places are kind of like mini tourist spots. That’s your brand, rain or shine. Treat it with the respect it deserves.

I did wanna mention that I noticed this building seemed to have been pressure-washed when I last visited about 2 weeks ago.

It was really dirty the past 1.5 yrs (I pass it everytime I pick up some coffee at the new Cougar Grounds).

So that’s encouraging…now if only they found a way to trim the tree branches to where you can actually see the elegant, golden-metallic font.

I believe the issue with academic facilities is a lack of funding from the Louisiana State legislature not SEC money.

Remember, UH gets money from the Texas legislature for the new medical school building, law school building, medical research building, etc. and that has nothing to do with Big 12 money.

Are most endowments restricted to specific investments and operations?
