Takeaways

  1. Kent State did a great job scouting us. They knew how to play us.
  2. KS was gritty. Never gave up. Quality team and coach.
  3. UH shooting was off. This was a culture win. Defense and rebounding.
  4. Roberts is a dog and plays with heart.
  5. Francis, Arceneaux and Walker got meaningful minutes in a close game. This will pay dividends down the road.
  6. Our bigs need to work on their handles. Too many turnovers inside the paint.
  7. Roberts and Chaney have trouble creating their own shot outside the basket. If the coaches can improve that, its one more bullet in the chamber.
  8. Didn’t realize UH had the bug when they came back from Oregon. This altered who could practice during the week.
  9. In the last minute of the game, I was more nervous than a hooker at Sunday service.

Seems like we always have a couple of games under Sampson where we can’t buy a bucket. Last year was that Nova game. Hopefully this will be a wake up call and help us to improve long term. Blowing out cupcake teams is fun but not really helping us improve for the Tourney. We need to be dangerous come March and I’d rather have teams go at us so we can grow and get better. Hopefully Walker and TA grow quickly and can be our wildcard towards the end of the year.

Kent St played good man defense, kept UH in front, rarely let UH get to the rim. UH took many contested mid range shots. after the first 6-8 minutes the defense and rebounding was relentless and good as usual.

We missed a ton of open shots and tips inside. Sure Kent St played decent defense but let’s not go overboard.
We are going to get better…much better

We were “short” on most of our shot attempts. Don’t know if it was aftermath of flu or not. Lots of dead legs

Shead run 103 fever two days ago and Sharpe didn’t play today. Just glad we got this one behind us

Kent State coming into this game was ranked 7th in steals in NCAA which probably had a lot to do with our season high turnovers! Add to that our Coogs having health issues, it is great we came out with a win! Do our COOGS deserve to be #1, “HECK YEA”!

This game, with all these sick players, provides little useful information about our players other than they gutted it out and got the W.

Dead legs and no energy will cause everyone not named Jordan to shoot poorly and make lackadaisical passes…

My takeaway: as ugly as that win was, at least it didn’t suck as much as our football team.

Even 2021 Baylor had a hard time putting away a 2 win Iowa State then got blown out by Kansas after getting sick midseason

Just gotta hope we get our legs back before next game

Don’t hookers often do their best business right after Sunday services?

Why did we keep trying to drive into the paint? Was it because our 3’s weren’t falling? Kent State was a taller team.

They played zone and crowded the paint because we couldn’t buy a bucket.

I think because we shot 15% from the 3

Kent State was no cupcake. That is a good, well-coached team.

You’ll see them in March

They definitely have the best OOC results out of all MAC teams so far
