Televised Houston coaches shows to be produced in Valenti School studios with UH student involvement

UH Athletics/Valenti School Announce Partnership
Televised Houston coaches shows to be produced in Valenti School studios with UH student involvement.

Hosted by Kevin Eschenfelder, the twelve episodes of Houston Football Central will air on ROOT SPORTS Southwest beginning Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. Eschenfelder will be joined in studio each week by Houston Head Coach Tom Herman and other guests from the Houston Football program looking back at the previous week’s game and previewing Houston’s upcoming contests.

Following the fall semester, Valenti students will have the opportunity to produce the Houston Basketball Central show beginning in January as Houston Men’s Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and guests join Eschenfelder in studio to discuss recent games and look ahead to upcoming games.

Great to hear. Have students been involved in production of these shows in the past?

Man, I’ve watched maybe 20 cumulative minutes of Root Sports in my life.

I hope they will expand this partnership to the advertising/pr/integrated comm programs.

I wish they would change the format to the way it was with the Bill Yeoman show. Above field highlights with Herman talking about it. I bet more folks would watch it that way.

I love the show, but the graphics are very dated. Last season was much better (and I know students are producing, but they need to ramp up the production quality).

Great opportunity for students and wonderful way for the campus to promote its program. Parallels the recruiting pitch CMA will be using. Come to play at UH and make contacts that will help you post college days. The program should continue to get better and better.

I would sure like to get the Coach’s radio show saved to podcasts so those of us who miss them and UH supporters everywhere could access them. IMO that would be awesome and help promote the program as well.

We need to find more ways to leverage partnerships between Athletics and Academics like this. I know that the marketing department offers internships and there are some graduate assistants in training and I assume coaching.

I wonder what it would take to offer some graduate assistant positions in marketing, sports information or other areas. Also, work with the advertising/pr/integrated comm programs in Valenti School on campaigns.

This.

Our AD does a good job with social media, but podcasts is one area that is lacking. Good way to do coaching shows with all sports as well as maybe do things with the radio guys doing interviews. Would love to have Branham and Chadwell doing a podcast where they bring in athletes and coaches as well as those on the academic side. Branham does a pretty good job of hitting up the Houston podcasts; he could probably start a weekly one.

Nice thing is that the fans are doing a good job filling that role. Besides the excellent Pawdcast, there’s the Shock the World Podcast, the Weekly Brewcast, Kris Gardner’s one, and the HoustonSportsPodcast that all touch on UH.
