Tennis Travels to Face UTRGV (W 5-2)

ABOUT THE VAQUEROS
UTRGV welcomes Houston on Saturday with a 2-6 record, falling to #21 ranked Texas A&m in their last match, 4-0. The Vaqueros are led by Senior Dominique Ibarra, who leads the team at Flight 1 holding a 2-0 singles record this season with three unfinished matches. In doubles, she carries a 2-1 record for the season.

The Cougars came back after dropping the first point in doubles at Courts 1 & 3. Ndindi Ndunda paired up with Sophie Gerits at Flight 1, while Mimi Kendall-Woseley teamed up with Elena Tairyan in the second court. The junior from Boca Raton and redshirt freshman from Russia defeated Michelle Walker and Doris Aleksovska in a tight set, 7-5. On court 3, Phonexay Chitdara and Jovana Vukotic faced Sandra Putz and Katarina Sasaroga, who took the set to clinch, 6-4.

In singles, Kendall-Woseley stole the first point to tie the match at Court 2, 6-3, 6-2. Shortly after, the freshman from Australia, Stephanie Belovukovic, dropped only one game to defeat Sandra Putz, 6-1, 6-0. At her neighboring court, Chitdara secured another point at Flight 5, winning 6-1, 6-1.

The momentum in singles continued to clinch the match at court 3, where Gerits topped Michelle Walker in a tight match, 7-5, 6-3. Dominique Ibarra then defeated Ndunda at Court 1 for their lone singles win, as freshman Vukovic finished the last match for the Cougars, defeating Doris Aleksovska in a long three-set match, 5-7, 6-0, 10-1.
