https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/billtext/pdf/HB02211I.pdf#navpanes=0

The bill includes an age (18+) and GPA requirement.

Wait.

18 year old HS seniors can now get NIL?

WOW!!!

That should set off a high school cross-district recruiting WAR!!!

Kids will make more than all the employees.

If you pay the football players you definitely got to pay the prettier cheerleaders to attract the best players.

Something very wrong

How many kids really turn 18 before the season? It’ll be during the season and an unnecessary distraction

I was unaware that they couldn’t do this already. High school kids can get a job for whatever money they want. If some weirdo wants to pay a high school kid a billion dollars and give their family a home in the district, is there a rule against that? The school can’t. Coaches can’t. But private citizen to private citizen?

Talking with a buddy whose kids are looking at scholarships, most schools have done away with walk on athletes because every athlete starts at $50K, some are obviously much higher but that pushes out walk on. He did not know about woman’s swimming, but it could be every athlete gets $50K.

The system sucks. They get people who have no financial interest in the football team to pay for the employees. I guess if you can get someone to do that bully for you.

But eventually this system is going to collapse because it makes no sense.

They blocked high school students from NIL here in NC but that law has already been challenged and thrown out by the courts.

The sponsor of HB 2211 is State Representative Ben Baumgarner (R), representing District 63, in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Here is District 63, outlined in red.
